I'm starting to bore myself with these blogs now so god knows how you guys feel!...... Who ever you are.
A failled fishing trip to the unsurprisingly croc infested Howard river was the highlight these last few weeks. It saw me dismantle the car with a forest and visa versa and get eaten alive by killer sand flies. More very dramatic off roading has increased my driving skills tenfold so now I would say I'm 'barely adequate'.
While thisbes been away we have done a mammoth amount of work (and resting) cleared leaves off of a very rickety roof, dug a veggie patch, weeding (of course) repairing mozzie screens, replacing a roof on a huge shed, gardening and now we are in the process of renovating the kitchen area. Paving it and such. My skill set is growing along with my guns!
We've had some bad news also. Our closest aboriginal friend has sadly passed away in her sleep. She was struggling with a kidney problem so it wasn't totally out of the blue, but never the less still very sad. (Thats her in the picture)RIP Margaret. I'll always remember her seeing two burly men in the forest and declaring that the sight has turned the forest into a paradise and that she just had to get out the car to touch one of them. She did it aswell.
She had a very sad life up until she moved to Darwin with her family being shunned from her village on the tiwi islands for accusations of being witchdoctors. There's alot of that sort of thing in the aboriginal communities. She was also promised to one of her dads friends (also married to her older sister) when she was a small girl. She ran away and eventually met her husband who has been lovely to her.
They're full of interesting and sad stories. Also aboriginals only count to 5???! How's that for laid back. They don't even count to 5 really, it's more One, Two, Three, oneandthree, Twoandthree. Any thing over tht is just a 'mob'. Love it.
One of thisbes friends came to stay with us for a few days. Her son, mossy, climbed the coconut tree for a snack. He's only about 10 and the tree is about 40ft high. Mad b*****. Nice coconuts like but I always use a ladder.
