Venice day 3 - I found my building!
The weather is fantastic today, the skies are clear and the sun is shining. It's even warm when you stand in it. Yet again I made my way through the city a completely different way! I am the definition of tourist today, camera in hand and backpack on. I'm taking a picture of everything. I was desperately trying to find the hospital from yesterday as I couldn't locate it on the map. I walked around for a good couple of hours and hadn't come across it or a sign for it. I found a sign that looked like it said museum of natural history, in Italian of course, and followed that instead. I must of lost track of those signs and found myself closer to San Marco. I then spotted a sign for McDonalds and decided to find that instead, I'd tried to find it yesterday and failed, I know there is one here but yet again can not find it. But what I did find were signs for the hospital, my beautiful building. However the square it is in is packed, it was still and silent yesterday, I wanted it to be my quiet place. Oh well it is still beautiful and I have some great pictures.
It's interesting how yesterday to narrow streets were the warmest part of the city, sheltered from the wind and rain, but today they are the coldest part, where sunshine can not reach me.
Tuesday must be market day, a lot of the squares I have come across today are full of stalls. I passed a massive fish and fruit market along the grand canal, it looked impressive but I couldn't take the smell of fish, I took a picture and then pretty much ran in the other direction.
Today is soooo busy! San Marco square is packed and beautiful. I'm going to leave the museum until June, it's too perfect to miss out in the sun. As I was writing that a pigeon relieved itself on me, that's lucky right?
My camera battery lasted half a day of happy snapping =[ it's means no pictures of the canal tonight. Luckily I have quite a photographic memory. It's getting really hot now because I'm all layered up but I can't take my jumper off because I've had my face painted, to the narrow streets I go.
I couldn't have asked for a more perfect last day, I'm sitting in a restaurant, which is essentially by the sea, in the the sunshine. Eating yummy pizza, watching performers and people in costume. I'm also trying to guess which language people will speak just by looking at them. I've not come across many English people my whole trip, quite a lot of Americans today but mainly European.
I've only got a couple of hours left now, not sure where to go next, I've covered most districts of the city. I'll just let my feet guide me, I do want to get some Italian ice cream, that's my next hunt, I'm pretty sure I won't have to look far.
I had my delicious ice cream and enjoyed another hour in San Marco. I found a quiet park away from the crowds and read some of my book before it got dark. Then I hopped on the coach the the airport and that's where I am now, waiting to make my way home. I've had an amazing time!
