26/09/10 Mumbai, A star is born (thats me by the way!)
So today we are filming the commercial at the Taj mahal hotel (the one that got bombed).
We all met outside McDonalds, couldn't resist an egg mcmuffin, I had to check they are the same here in India. There were about 3o westerners there, all looking at each other thinking am I really doing this! We all went to the hotel and they started handing us costumes. I really don't know what they think western office workers wear but we all ended up loking like 1930's new york gangsters who got dressed in the dark, wa hilarious. All the men had suits on with flip flops, and one german guy was dressed as a sheikh!
We all had to pretend we were at an auction for a hotel, I got told at one point that I wasn't reacting enough. He didn't know what he was talking about, I wa acting my ass off and I was amazing lol! The director kept getting really angry and shouting silence (like in silence...I kill you) us westerners found that very funny.
It lasted from 8am till 10:30 pm, was along day but we got fed amazing food, got paid about 4 quid and have the best story to tell the grand kids.
I'll post the U tube link when the advert goes online, its going out across Asia in 2 weeks, hilarious.
27/09/10 Mumbai, Slumming It!
Our last full day in Mumbai today, and in stark contrast to yesterday we are visiting Dharvi slumb which holds 60% of Mumbais population. Oh my days, It was amazing, best thing we have done since we got here. A guide took us around for about 2hrs, saw them recycling plastic from USA and UK, making leather for Armani, and poppadoms for sale in UK supermarkets drying put in the streets. I'd rather not know but it makes u think twice. The smells were crazy there, made us all want to be sick at one point, the allyways were extensive and sewar lined and at some places I could only fit through them sideways.
The main thing I will take away from this day is that although they lived in a slum, the people were friendly, polite, happy, self respecting and none of them begged from us, and a lot can be said for that!
28/09/10 Goodbye India
Leaving today, had an amazing time but ready to go now. Managed to find a place which did the best chocolate cake to waist some hours before our flight, finished reading Twilight.
I just want to say
28 DAYS IN iNDIA AND I WASNT ILL, CHUFTY BADGE PLEASE! Im sure I have just cursed myself. Gonna miss the food though.
29/09/10 Bangkok Baby Yeah
Arrived at 7am, all knackered. Hostel is fine, clean and good air conditioning, even if the bed does feel like concrete. After beafkfast and a quick snooze headed to Siam Paragon, a massive mall for a well deserved pedicure. Coming here was a big mistake, I really miss shopping for nice things! Pretty whacked, singing off, off to bed but maybe via the koh san rd for drinkies!

Marianna Hi Jess, glad you went on the tour. Laughed at your comment about ginxing yourself with the stomach bug; I wrote in my journal one day how amazing it was that I had got to a certain point without being ill then that very night got sick and was ill for two weeks! Ha ha! Hope that doesn't happen to you. Did you go the Elephant Isle? Enjoy Thailand x
Home dad & mum Hi Jess It was great to "Skype" with you yesterday, you are looking fit & well after India, must have been good for you. I watched a documentary last week showing Leopard attacks in the Mumbai slums, didnt tell your mum until you had cleared off to Bangkok, and assume they have control over their wild animal population there(best check at www.dont eatthelocals.com) Enjoy Bangkok and Hongkong. I am now off to explore the paint section of B&Q where its rumoured old men in strange orange costumes roam and pounce on unsuspecting tourists.
evelyn Wow - will you still speak to me now you're a star? Thanks for the postcard, but judging by the picture you really need to step up the sunscreen, and just because you are travelling dosn't mean you should give up waxing! Much Love, Ev xx
work mum Hi Jess, me and Julie are working late in the Mansfield listening to 'country boys' and thinking of you! Its a pity you couldn't have asked Deepak for a bit if Reuben James! Sounds like you are having a great time and having some amazing experiences. I just wanted to give you a bit of work motherly advice......always carry a hankie and say please and thankyou! Miss you! love Woody
Work Dad Hi Jess. Well done for doing India without getting ill! Chufty badge in the post. The slum sounds like the sort of place that makes you grateful for what you've got and puts things into perspective. When they were recycling the plastic from the UK you didn't see my lunch box lid did you? I can't find it anywhere! I think you should rename your trip 'Around the world in 80 cakes', especially if your having trouble fitting down the streets! I'm always impressed when people from a run down place can still be friendly, happy and helpful...that's why I like working at Derriford!! Only joking, it's still lovely. Anyway, keep washing your hands and don't wear a red or yellow T-shirt. WD
Auntie Vivvy Glad your in Bangkok safe and sound. Filming sounded hilarious. Red carpet here we come. Don't forget who loves you when they are giving out the invitations! Mum and Dad busy choosing paper for the bedroom, decisions, decisions. Not like me, just paper it white! Anything for an easy life. Chocolate cake again, a girl after my own heart. Keep safe and love you lots.
