We woke up early without an alarm. Bianca had pointed out she had seen a cute little monkey in near the building. We admired the cuteness. We decided we would pack up our stuff then go down for breakfast then go to Negombo. We had emptied our capsules and started re packing our bags on the roof top. Then suddenly Bianca started screaming. I look up and we were surrounded by 6 monkeys in a semi circle blocking us against the capsules. We couldn't even climb into capsule as our bags were blocking us. We really were freaking out as we knew nothing about monkeys. They were picking up some of our stuff then putting it down. Then the big monkey was about a metre from me and it picks up a packet of tissues trying to open it. Meanwhile I'm still like a statue and Bianca is waving her towel up and down making hissing sounds. I was tempted to run into my capsule but it was a dead end if the monkey followed. It was like a scene from a movie and I have never been so scared. I literally didn't have any ideas of what to do. The big monkey moved closer reaching out to me about 30 cm away I was really freaking out. However it grabbed a packet of biscuits that were on the other side of my bag then all the monkeys left. We chucked our stuff as quickly as we could into the capsule running down 4 levels of stairs in our pjs trying to find the hostel staff to help us. After 5 minutes we found one and got them to come upstairs however all the monkeys had gone. We asked how are we meant to pack our bags as capsules were so small. We gathered all our stuff taking to hostel and we packed inside. We spoke to the manager to inform them what happened. They told us there was a sign. If had three cute clip art monkeys holding bananas saying lock food and valuables in capsules. We asked for a refund on the final night and they disagreed giving us only a $2 less fee. Pretty pathetic! We had breakfast which is outside but covered with bars and protection obviously to block out the monkeys. Breakfast was delicious however fried egg on toast with tea. We then went to the train station to catch train to Negombo. We bought a cheap ticket but then saw the train didn't come for 1.5 hours. I was getting impatient by this stage and just wanted to get out of Kandy so I opted to pay 5,000 Rs ($50) to Tuktuk the 3 hours. Good life decision as we were taken straight to our villa. The villa was perfect! Run by an Irish man. He was very caring. The villa had a pool and was so beautiful and clean. We settled in and decided to go get lunch. We went to a 4x4 pub. We ate some curry and noodles with pineapple juice. The food was really nice. It was the first lot of nice food for so long. Time went quickly as we had found another friend from Melbourne. It was already 5.30pm in no time so we walked to the beach to have a look. As it is off season it was recommended we didn't swim as it's very dangerous. We just watched the sunset instead. It was a beautiful sunset one of the first we had seen this trip. We went back to villa to freshen up and relax then we went to dinner. It was sad it was Bianca's and my last night together before she moves to the UK. We met up with other Melbourne girl and we ordered some cocktails at rodeo bar. We kept drinking cocktails and forgot to eat dinner. At about 10.30pm I was starving and insisted we ate. We got a delicious chicken curry and rice. We met the owner of the bar and a few creeps before returning back to villa. Villa was about a 5 minute walk from beach and bars and restaurants.
