From Langkawi took a ferry across to Kuala Perlis (mainland Malaysia), from Kangar bus station took a coach to Butterworth then ferried to Penang. Penang another island off Malaysia was industrial and busy, not that pretty.

Enjoyed a train journey up to Penang hill, 600m high, quite nervous that the train was 100 years old. Funnily met a lot of English people, who enjoyed telling us that they were on a cruise travelling the world and had just pulled into Penang.
