So on wednesday I headed into London. I get off the tube and start going up the stairs, wondering why no one else is around. The stairs go on for ages and when I get to the top there is a sign that says: warning do not go down these stairs unless an emergancy. I guess I missed the sign at the bottom.
I first went to the British Museum. It's massive. Everyone says it takes a day to look around, I did it in 2 hours. I only read about the stuff I like. The mummies were great, as well as the rosetta stone. And the Greek and Roman parts were brilliant. Then i decided I wanted to eat bangers and mash for lunch. My guide book recommended this place, so I walked across London to get there-got lost twice and finally made it to the place...that didn't serve bangers and mash. So I went to a pub around the corner. It was worth the walk.
It was about 2, so I wwent over to the National Gallery. I loved this! They had Renior and Monet. Turns out I like Renior better than Monet. They also had these massive brown leather couches to sit on an look at the paintings, and after my trek around london I wanted to have a nap there.
Then I took off to harrods in Knightsbridge. I was going to do some shopping, bt I couldn't decide between the £7000 bike or the £8000 gold plated fooseball table.I couldn't decide so I left. Alexxa, I thought about you so much in harrods. I could see why you loved it. Then I went to H&M and did some shopping there. I popped into to Marks and Spencers and grabbed a sandwich and waited until 6 so I could miss most of the rush hour. I am a big sandwich fan and you can get them everywhere here. The weather was miserable all day so I'm glad I stayed inside most of the time.
I took the wrong tube four stops, but didn't realize because it was so full I couldn't see the signs. Then got on the right one, came home and spent the evening chatting. Passed out, completly exhausted.
Yesterday I went to the Thames. I stopped at St. Paul's Catherdral, then I went to the Tate Modern. Which is mostly fulll of weird modern art. But there are some pieces that are beuatiful. I saw Picasso's flowers, a bunch of Lichetstein and some Warhall paintings.
Then I walked down the Thames to the Royal Festival hall. When my parents were dating they used to meet for coffee here, so I thought I would have lunch there. Except the lunch choices were crap. So instead I walked back up the Thames to London Tower. On the way there, there was a may day parade. I got caught up in the middle of it, at first I had no idea what was going on. All I saw was a bunch of people in green and a guy wearing a big tree. I didn't go to the London tower because I've been there before, and didn't want to go again. So I decided to go to the Tate Britain and the parliment buildings. The Tate Britian is full of portraits of rich people I don't care about. There were some beautiful paintings, but mostly portraits. Then I walked to knightsbridge, got some supper and came back home.
Nick, Ben and I went to the local pub, which is two houses down and had some beers. Its such a great little pub. Then I passed out again from a culture overload. Susie, you think I walk a lot in Vancouver...this is crazyness.
Today the weather is nice, so I think I'm going to take a boat up the thames to grenich, look at the prime meridain. Aaron told me about a shop that sells replica bobby gear, which would be great.
Write more soon!
