Hallo Everyone,
last I left off I was in Valencia. I spent my last night in Valencia eating paella with some friends. Despite it being a speciality of the city I do not like it. Its too seafoodie. And I bought the good stuff, not the three euro chicken paella. Valencia is such a great city at night, everyone is walking around and eating outside and relaxing.
The next day I headed back to Barcelona, the one nice day in Valencia. Once I got back to my hostel I went to La Ramble to get some food from the market, but it was a holiday and everything was closed so I just wandered around. That night I went out with some people and watched the fireworks around the city.
The next day I finally got to the beach, laid there for a while. There are these people who come by and offer to give you a massage. I did not take up the offer to have some crazy person do this, but a lot of toursits do, which I thought was a bit odd. I spent the rest of the day walking around, came back to my hostel and made dinner with some people.
The next day I got up ridiculosly early and headed to the airport. Viola met me at the train station in Berlin and we spent the afternoon walking around, exploring her neighbourhood and chatting. Then we went out to dinner for ... Indian. No brautworst or saukraut...yet. Then we explored some more. Her neighbourhood is great. It reminds me of commercial drive, without the scary crack/meth heads. Its full of cool restaurants and coffee shops. I really like Berlin. Viola's apartment is amazing. Too bad there aren't any converted communist buildings in Vancouver. Everyone in Berlin is very chill and relaxed. I think the germans may have got it right, five weeks vacation, hanging out in cafes all the time. It beats our 3 weeks if you're lucky vacation. But it is an alcoholic city. They drink beer all the time, it's cheaper than water. Its everywhere and people are drunk at 10am.
Today I went to central Berlin on a walking tour. Which was fantastic. Its run by uni students and you just tip them at the end. They explained all the history of the main tourist attractions, so you get to see things like the nazi bunker that Hitler died in, the holocaust memorial, the sight of the Nazi book burning, things like that. I recommend this tour to anyone. After the tour I wandered around along the river and got lost in Berlin. I really love this city. Except I keep speaking spanish to people, well bad spanish. I am exhausted and going to pass out now, walking all day is tiring and my legs are starting to give out on me. But tomorrow Viola and I are going exploring/shopping and then I'm off again on Saturday.
Miss you all
Jenny
