Yay! Guess what! I´m going sandboarding tommorrow! Another guy wants go too so that means it´s cheaper and so I can afford it now! So Cerro Blanco is the highest sand dune in the world and I´ll spend the good part of a day on the dune! Will get back in time to have a shower at my hostel and then get the night bus to Arequipa at 23.30!
The Nazca lines flight this morning was so good (was in a small plane btw)! Some lines were really easy to see and clear, like the condor, hummingbird and spider designs. Others werent so obvious like the killer whale. But was definiely worth going up in the air, got some nice photos too! Such a good camera, even with the plane bouncing about I still got some clear shots! However I was glad to get back on the ground as the pilot tips the plane from side to side at 45 degree angles and turning round in circles so everyone can see the lines (was only 3 of us in my plane). Plus the wind currents bump you about a bit! Had to sit down a while once I landed, luckier than some who were sick in the plane or as soon as they got out of it! Glad I didn´t have breakfast beforehand, for sure (all Peruvians say for sure, is quite funny!)!
I was meant to go and see the mummies today at the cemetary, but the taxi driver turned up and said the guide was drunk and the driver couldn´t speak English so I´m just missing out on that as it was either that or sandboarding tommorrow, cant do both! Went to see the aquaducts built by the Nazcan culture (who also made the lines) with 2 women from New Zealand who are staying at this hostel! The aquaducts are streams underground that have been built and covered over from the mountains in the East, they´re covered with rocks and wood, if not the waer would just evaporate in the desert sun! There are air vents though, which is what we saw, spirals down to the water, they´re to let oxygen in, the water is cool and clear with little fish swimming in it! It´s a long way for the water to travel from the mountains and the fact that these structures were built over 2 thousand years ago and no earthquakes have broken them and the water is still running cool and clear is amazing! Especially when the river here has all dried up and it´s been 6 years since the last rain!
I´ve also found out that no mattedr how hard I try I cant eat alone here! If not joined by travellers it´s the peruvians who sit and talk to me! Today the guy in the restaurant from lunch walked into the one at dinner time and sat down to chat! Hedwig (the hostel owner) told me I should just tell them to leave me alone, but I feel guilty being rude, dont want to hurt their feelings when often they just want to know why you came to visit and practise English!
Hope you´re all ok!
