Maroochydore & Fraser Island
After solid drinking, drug taking, clubbing and run ins with the police, it was a welcomed break to stay with Doreen and be 'home' again. We were spolit rotten once again with home-cooked meals, towels, the best bed in the world and cuddles (for once not with each other!)
A trip to Noosa wouldn't be complete without a trip to Steve Irwins Zoo, Crikey! It rocked!!! We feel at one with oz nature...we fed kangaroos, cuddled Koalas and watched the famous croc show. We did feel a tad guilty that we had enjoyed these Kangaroos for dinner and crocs make lovely handbags, but hey, we never claim to be eco-warriors, and Gucci does need to make profits! Bring on the Emu burgers still to be sampled.
Doreen took us out to explore Noosa which included a river trip, the beach and a shopping centre which could put Bluewater to shame. We also went to the Big Pineapple where we fed more Kangaroos and went on the farm, where Jen excelled herself in asking "what the hell is that" to which Doreen replied "A dog!" (A good job Jen never followed original career path of being a vet!). All in all, Doreen was a dream and we look forward to coming back and spending more time with our nan-down-under.
After talking to Dave and Becky, we thought Fraser Island would be a picturesque escape where we could relax and enjoy the views. We forgot the fact our budgets were different and seasons change, so it was camping on the biggest sand island in the southern hemisphere in the rain...the two things we hate most! Thank god for the rest of team Chariot, a fellow Brit, 3 Sweedish ladies, 1 Brazillian girl and 3 Brazillian guys, who thankfully drove the huge 4x4 (we did have a go on the easy bits), knew how to put up tents and made our time loads of fun! When we say camped we aren't exagerating, we had to dig our 'toilet', wash up in the sea and shower in the lakes! All of this made worse by having to constantly watch out for Dingos, with the only advice being, if attacked, cross your arms and "act scary". With the aid of goon, the other groups and the brazillians guitare it was great, although Denise did threaten to "shove the guitare up their arse" when the new song "We are on Fraser Island, Everyone Wake Up" was sung at 3am. They did try to make up for it with a serenade in our tent, where we polietly told them to sod off. They then had the audacity to fall asleep, leaving camp in a mess so we had no choice but to drag them by their feet from their tent to tidy up before Dingo attack.
Back at Rainbow Beach we were never more keen to have a shower and get in a comfy bed although it was sad saying bye to the Chariot team..its amazing how close you get to people when you see them pee in a hole! Slept well ready for the following overnight bus to Airlie and quality Ky and Tan time! Bring it on!
