We have left it ages to write this up and Internet time is costing, so its going to be short and sweet summary. However, we need to express how much we LOVED NZ. It is absolutley beautiful, the best place we have been so far. The scenery is just breathtaking...Lord of the Rings for sure (although we did avoid these geeky tours!) We have a new family here and want to emigrate (sorry mums and dads). Our Mum-Down-Under, Helen is amazing. Not only does she cook great food she takes us out and introduces us to power rangers! A complete star and we really miss her, as well as Lol and Steve. Thankyou guys so much!
Auckland - stayed with Mr and Mrs Loveday (the family-down-under). Visited Waiheke island and was put to shame by Helen who managed to catch Tua tua quite easily, we did get one though (between us!) Shopped. Haircuts. Got camera and purse stolen on drunken night out...hence lack of photos. Saw Mr B again! Went to West and East beaches and obviously met a Power Ranger and had coffee with the rest of the crew!!!
Waitomo - Saw gloworms in the caves, really pretty.
Rotorua - smelt of eggs due to geo-thermal activity. Lounging in hot pools seemed like a good idea until the smell made us feel ill and our new bikinis were ruined due to the smell of egg! So cheered ourselves up by going Zorbing (kinda like being in a washing machine...wicked fun!). Did also see a natural geyser...very impressive (different to geezers in London)!
Taupo - Rained. Waited for skydive for 3 days. Watched every chick flick in hostel (Dirty Dancing, Cocktail and Bridget Jones in a day!) Highlight was meeting Ben and Laura, couple from round our way! Did get in a shopping visit (in our PJS) for the most hidious coats...don't judge us, it was sooo cold! Also lost our Mc Cafe virginity...glorious hot chocolates! Classic moment being:
Denise: "did anyone hear that helicopter take off next to our room, i cant believe how loud that was"
Roomate "No...but I did hear the tumbledryer next door" Muppet!
Wellington - On the way here we did go through Tongario National Park aka Mount Doom. Lord of the Rings eat your heart out! Was pretty impressive! First time it rained (though we did manage one night of drinking obviously!) The second visit we stayed with Polly (a dream girl) who took us on the tram, to the lookout and fed us and gave us Tim Tams...we love her! Thankyou!
Nelson/Abel Tasman - Beautiful place, looked like Fiji. Did a 4 hour walk in the park. Got to know Claire and Ally properly (and Cam...enough said...the fellow Magic people will understand our suffering!). Our introduction to Claire and Ally was "some b******s stole our ham!". Later discovered at the bottom of the food bag. Opps! This is where we also did our skydive and Denise tried to force herself on the poor diver! The most amazing moment ever, it just rocked! 13 000ft and 1min freefall. Glorious! Beatiful views of Mountains, beaches and town.
Greymouth - Boring. Rained. Highlight...curry and McFlurry.
Franz Joseph - Hiked a Glacier...seemed like a great idea at the time, but really hard, wet and cold. Thank god for our mates Katy and Greg who helped us along! Highlight: Denise stacking it. Low point: wading through ft deep ice cold water, filling up our boots for rest of climb. Still pretty spectacuar scenery...rainforest and glacier! Mighty proud of ourselves so celebrated with a few drinks with our Magic friends. Cheers Frodo for the Jagerbombs, sorry about the bank balance!
Queenstown - Party town...out every night, World Bar being the fav with cocktails in taepots. Got so drunk one night declared we were doing the Nevis the following day. Oh dear. We did it though. 134m 440ft. Wow! Best hangover cure by far. Did have an emotional night, but all sorted with a pic with the cops and a kebab...beauitful! Also 'luged' (kinda like go-karting at top of mountain)...great fun, we did get quick but Greg still won every race.
Milford Sound - Looked like fantasy land. Went on a boat tour. Saw Dolphins, penguins and seals.
Lake Tekapo - one of our fav spots. Hostel looked out onto lakes and mountains. Hired bikes, got sore bums..but did manage a Billy Elliot!
Christchurch - Stayed with family number 2. Steve and Bibi and our new brother and sisters. Great food and company. Really enjoyed ourselves. Also met up with Claire and Ally for another drunken night. Jenna was asked to leave (again the bouncers just dont get the zany dancing!!)
Kaikoura - Another of our favourite places. Went Whale Watching. Saw 4 Sperm Whales. This was one of those wow moments when you realise how lucky we were to be there. Beautiful seaside village, fantastic scenery. Loved it here.
Napier - Ate. Slept. Cinema - Borat was the highlight!
Mount Maunganui - Only stayed for one night but an amazing seaside town. Wished we could have stayed longer.
Thames - Crap. Almost as bad of one at home. Highlight....Pak & Save supermarket. Some dodgy German girl too who we couldn't lose for a following 3 days...is suffocating someone really that wrong?!
Corolmandel - Another favourite. Visted Hot Water Beach, where if you dig in the sand you can make your own hot water pool. We didn't dig, we just sat in other peoples. Then went to Cathedral Cove which is breathtaking. One of the most stunning things we have ever seen. Words aren't enough.
Paihia/Bay of Islands - Dolphin Watching. Saw a pod of 100 dolphins. They swam by us for ages. Saw the Hole in Rock too...another piece of NZ scenery which is great.
As we said, NZ was amazing/beautiful/great/fantastic...yes we do need to read a dictionary! Anyone thinking of going there, book your ticket, you wont regret it! Kiwi land rocks! And if we get our way, helen will have a B&B up and running in no time for you to stay at! Rock on NZ!!!!!
