Bula!!!
We overtook you in time...hell yeah we did....we missed a day and everything! We are now officially writing this from the future...Its a wonder out here!
Fiji was tough going...only so much white sand, clear blue see and hot weather girls can take!
Lets get down to business...we didn't think our 'International Adapters' worked, so, for a whole week we had no hairdryer, straightners or chargers (yes that includes phone and ipod!!!), only to discover on the last day that the prongs on the plugs can be turned to fit. Fantastic. So please, no comments on the hair! As for no makeup...we were just lazy, apologies for broken computer screens! And...the toilets and showers are outside, so for those that doubted us, we live to tell the tale! (Although we were referred to as Paris and Nicole!)
We went to Mana and Kuata Islands. They were both beautiful in their own way. In Mana we met up with Corin and George (the girls we met in Washington) which was great. Mana was our lazy days, jsut chilling on the beach, slightly embarrassing ourselves by sunbathing topless when its not allowed...opps! We did do it on our 'private beach'...no one around for ages, glorious!
Ok, so I'm writing so I want to embarrass Jenna. She went for a shower (in our private room due to the hostel mucking up) and came out claiming that she had "no idea how to work this poxy shower" because the water was only coming out the tap (which was knee high). So....10 minutes later, Jenna emerges from the shower completly amazed at how people shower on these islands as she had managed to shower and hairwash under the tap (god knows how!) So, I go in fully expecting to be on my hands and knees, to discover that if you turn the huge blue k*** on the wall, the shower works. Genius!!
Jens birthday was spent on Kuata where we woke at 5am to do the summit climb (again in flip flops) to see the sunrise. It was beautiful (see pics) and Nan Penny was with Jen which made it special, and her cry...unfortunately someone decided to whistle and spoil the moment, Nan Penny will haunt him from now on!! Went back for balloons and present opening...which included...a fan, beach bag, biros and necklace (don't say I dont treat the girl....and I did treat myself to a necklace, didn't want Jen feeling silly opening presents by herself now did I?!) After we went Reef Snorkling. After a brief panic attack we were away and it was just beautiful. Really soooooo cool. AND...we saw Reef Sharks...at which point Jenna did inhale half the ocean and nearly choke herself due to the fear of Sharks. We braved it out for an hour and it was the best! Never seen such colours, Disney does under the sea proud! It rocked! That night we had the staff and other 20 people on the Island sing Happy Birthday and got chocolate cake (what a god send that was!) have never seen Jen so pleased to see cake in my life, she really did "love it like a fat kid love cake!". Then, the stupid Fijian owner man comes up and is like "Jenna, can I offer some of the workers cake"...Jenna being nice says yes thinking they'd only have a few slices, only for them to have half, yes HALF!!! the cake. Which was proceeded by them asking for money for Cava...jog on fellas! We did sample the cava (apolgies Josie, it is a narcotic). It was minging and looked like muddy water so we hit the $20 vodka and played drinking games with other people including Essex Boy friends and Mark and Catherine...cheers guys, you made it what it was! Mark did manage to make us cry with laughter when a lizard fell down his back...never seena man move so fast and scream so loud in my life! Was a great night followed by laying on the beach watching shooting stars (the essex boys are good at getting grils on beaches!! Joke!). Was a great birthday, topped off by our arrival back to Nadi when Marv and Bec treated Jen (and therefore me...cheers guys!) to champagne and chocolate. Again all the staff sang and Jennas mildly red face turned beetroot! She was so touched and was a great way to end teh week. Big big thanks guys! Hip Hip Horray!
All in all Fiji rocked, but the food on the Islands was a joke. One day we was actually served a plate of white rice and a bread roll, no sauce, no butter. How ming. Another day we had a veggie burger which was a bun with a slice of cucumber and soggy aubergine...nasty! So on return to Nadi we went to Nandos...some things never change! (Josie....two chicken in pittas with cheese, fries, coleslaw and drinks for 6 quid!)
Oh, and we got good a hopping boats. You wade into the sea, get on a little boat which then takes you to the big boat in the middle of the sea and then back onto little ones. Our sea legs have improved greatly...and we even kyacked from island to island...god we're good.
Love you long time Fiji! Bula!
