Byron Bay & Surfers Paradise
The delightful Tanya joined us again and with the aid of her champagne, Dave (the barman), Megan, Dartford boys, Dutch lads and boxes of goon for $10, Byron memories involve drunken nights and hangovers on beaches.
Highlights of these nights include...
- Falling off stages when drunk (Jenna was determined she could catch Denise from a height but failed miserably with the stained shorts and bruises to prove it).
- Tanya "who really is a nice girl" starting fights with other girls, kebab shop owners, bouncers, eco-warriors and anyone else who happened to cross her path!
- Daves spectacular dance moves which left the rest of the club asking where was his boyfriend!
- Sitting on pavements eating kebabs (some things never change!)
Fun didn't stop in the clubs, being in a 16 bed dorm (us two still sharing a bed...yes we are poor, any donations would be greatly appreciated, we can phone/email/text bank details) there was never a dull moment. These include Rino (yes that is someones name) insisting that it was acceptable to have sex in the dorm. His friend bringing crabs (yes the sea variety for you dirty minded people) in at 3am-where all me and Jenna heard from the bathroom was Tanya screaming "I don't care if you've got crabs, I don't want it near me!". Megan thinking Martin was having sex on the top bunk so assulted him in the night, (hes never quite recovered and sleeps very still now). Ivar mugging a poor girl for her sheets in the night and Barts screaming at "Martin" outside the dorm at 5am.
Despite these interuptions we slept well, especially after our visit to Nimbin. Although still firm believers drugs-are-for-mugs, we felt it appropriate to sample the local culture in the form of hash cookies. After insisting they were not affecting us, all of a sudden a cafe, plate, food and bus seemed histerically funny. Never laughed so much in our lives to the point death by laughter seemed a possibility. It was made worse by the fact that we all seemed to turn into our mums and Denise topping this by acting like lady muck. This was followed by a four hour nap, muchies (Dominos, chocolate, cake, biscuits, milkshakes) then a further 16 hour sleep. its a hard life. At least we didn't go down Daves route who is still adament that he saw dancing horses!!
After this it was time to say goodbye to Tanya :0( and onto Surfers via roadtrip in Frankie with Dave and Megan.
We were reunited with the Dutch boys and Sweedish girls and our little 'family' began. Continued Byron tradition of drinking games, bar crawls, night clubs and McDonalds on the way home. We were a bit more productive during the day with a surf lesson. After insisting the lads joined us, the b******s took to it naturally whilst we watched from the shore. It wasn't that we didn't try, the waves were just so big we couldn't get out to them, the water was too salty and current strong. After being knocked out by each other surfboards on a number of occasions we were pissed off and perfect timing, Denise was stung by a jellyfish meaning that we (Jenna had to assist her to shore) stopped and chilled.
We also managed a day to Wet & Wild. Dave insisted that Frankie (the car) could fit ten people in and a road trip should be made, claiming "there are never any police around". So, with three in the front, four in the back and three in the boot, we were off. Lasted a good five minutes before police pulled us and three cars surrounded us. Despite Barts attempts to convince the police it was normal in Holland, we were fined $240 and got a severe telling off. However, we did manage to get a photo, complete with the lights on!
After week together was time to say goodbye to our family and head off to Noosa!
