One of the 7 wonders of the world - Victoria Falls are absolutely amazing! we took the hotel shuttle bus into town and decided not to take a tour, rather to help ourselves to these amazing things. Shelling out yet more American dollars, it was a short walk to the statue of Livingstone and then down into the Devil's Cataract on the near side of the falls. Having been warned by the hotel that people were coming back in large puddles and knowing how wet we got last time, we all took our waterproof jackets (and rather insanely slathered ourselves with sunscreen). Climbing the 73 steps down to the viewing point of the cataract was the easy bit, getting back up on the slippery stone was a little more complicated.
The falls walk then takes you around the front of the falls and when you can see through the spray it is the most magnificent sight. Hard to describe in words it was one of those experiences that stay with you forever. Again, no-one lost their footing and we all ended the visit wet but without bruises...
Diane's shopping eyes saw some stalls across the road, near where we had to get the return bus, and it was here that Diane and James bought some bowls, craftily prepared by the really helpful guys on the stall, and Liz found herself a story-telling stick (which may cause problems for the luggage on the return trip).
A fantastic meal in the Lodge's Royal Drum (Makuwa-Kuwa) Restaurant finished us all off for the evening.v
