Hello special people!! WOW WOW WOW the last few days have been immense....with every new adventure I swear it gets better and better. We've spent the last three days aboard Alexander Stewert a 74ft long wooden tall ship. Beautiful. The trip started out in stark contrast to how it finished, we left Airlie harbour on Monday morning in the pouring rain and strong winds!!! Our skipper prepared us for the worse as the weather forecast looked poor for the next couple of days, not the idealic trip we'd hoped for - thank the lord though as we were rewarded with the BEST weather ever, a perfect sailing wind to fill those sails and the beaming sun for those tans!! Just check out the photos.
We explored all the Whitsunday islands, our days included a beautiful breakfast followed by short sail, a morning swim and snorkel, lunch, afternoon sail, more swimming and always a gorgeous dinner prepared by the chef Jen, a Puerto Rican Latina who was very handy in the kitchen, her fiancee Jason was the captain and Kiwi Jimmy his first mate! A fantastic bunch of people made our time so enjoyable, with star watching at night and some of the guys freestyling on the guitar up on deck under the watchful eye of the southern hemispheres constalations....I stayed up playing cards with the Danish, Mum and Dad I showed them Sevens and during one of the infamous "SEVENS" hands down the ring I bought in Thailand broke under the weight of everyones hands - a dangerous game!!
Whithaven beach, often rated as the best beach in the world was amazing. The sand wasnt like sand, more like snow and made from 98% pure silica. It was so fine and white and in contrast with the pure azure and green waters it took my breathe away. Definately the most beautiful place Ive seen in my life, as yet anyway. We put on our stinger suits and went sea ray hunting in the shallows myself and Claust (a Norwegen doctor) had three or four circuling our ankles while Sam shouted "get out get out" from the shore!! It was great. The snorkelling in the bays was amazing, Jimmy would catch us out and throw fish food from the outboard so hundreds of fish would be all around you!! We could of cruised the islands for a couple of weeks, and it made me jealous of the crew who have pretty much sailed the world and been paid very nicely at the same time - not a bad life!
Were now back in Airlie beach, just chilling before we head for Mackay tomorrow to stay a few nights with our Australian friends we made in Thailand. Ive got so much to say, Ill write another journal soon but for now this is goodbye!!
Love, as always
