Gooday,
So weve arrived in Australia, after a sleepless flight we caught a couple of hours Zzzzz's before heading in Cairns. It's a really nicew town with ALOT of great ideas the salt water lagoon has free fitness for all and lots of events on in the evenings to watch for free. I think the ozzies have got their heads screwed on. It's so laid back as you'd imagine and everyone is super friendly!! No dramas seems to be the lingo around here!!
On Tuesday we went scuba diving off the Great Barrier Reef it was incredible, and so amazing to see such wildlife and virant colours. I did my first solo dive since qualifying in Thailand and although a little scary it was amazing to freely roam the seas and explore the little nooks of the reef and see some amazing fish, there was lots of Clown fish AKA Nimo's!! Meanwhile Sam got into her snorkelling on the surface and although a little nervous at first loved it - I think she's addicted and amazed at what lives under the sea and keeps going "wow, best day of my life" Mission accomplished me thinks!! We met some good people on the trips and all of the crew were hilarious, see photos.
We've also been crocodile hunting, seen the rainforest, swam in Mosman gorge, seen the wonders of Cape Tripbulation and licked a giant green ants bottom - yep that's right ANTS!! hahah its a good source of vitamin C you see, very I'm A Celebrity!! It was great cruising the river looking for crocs, we saw a little one about 2meters but they can grow much bigger and the last time someone ventured in the river to cool off they were eaten pretty sharpish!! That was not the only scary creature we encountered yesterday, we also entered Cassowary territory!! These huge birds can run upto 40km/hr through the rainforest and need to be given a wide berth, two Japenese torrists we sliced of from the oesophagus to navel when they got two close!! Hmmmm I'll definately be using my daddy long legs to run in the opposite direction. In the depths of the rainforest we encountered ancient trees, snakes, weird forest crabs and learnt how the aboriginies used various forest plants for weird purposes. It was interesting, and made me realise how removed from nature and natural things we really are....everyone was like "ahhh an ant" but really everything including the ants bums can serve a purpose!! I'm devoloping a bit of an Ozzy twang, the dive instructors could place where we were from - I think its the West Country accent. Swimming in Mosman gorgeous was so great, amongst the mountains of Cape Tribulation the water cuts through forming this simply gorgeous gorge! See the pictures, I went rock hopping out into the middle of the fast flowing water and took some good snaps! Broke me big toe nail in the process though - ouch!!
All in all we've definately fallen in love with Australia, its hip, relaxed lifestyle suits us and at the moment is on a par with Koh Tao for best place of the trip....we're making our way down to Mission beach on the greyhound bus tomorrow to catch up on the sunbathing as the tans are a fading - not good! Hope everything back homes ok, Ive seen a few celeb mags now it looks like Posh is getting a bit better now - glad the hairs off. What else is going on?
see ya later guys,
