Hi, All - Jean here - again, cos Craig is still in his room drying off! We decided to do the uptown trip this afternoon on an open-top bus. It was a wee bit overcast to start with and halfway through, the skies opened and we got torrential rain + thunder + lightning! Luckily, when we got off the bus, we got a yellow cab back to the hotel but it'll be amazing if the clothes we had on today are dry for tomorrow's flight to London!
A few comments for the Ochiltree guys: we really don't know who the first prisoner on Alcatraz was or who was the only person known to have escaped from the rock! The National Park rangers on Alcatraz told us it wasn't true that nobody ever escaped because of the currents or that they might have been eaten by sharks if they tried! Craig remembers 27 men escaped and nobody knows if most of them got away or not, since the bodies weren't found. And there was no reason to worry about sharks: in the SF Bay area, the sharks are just itsy-bitsy leopard sharks, not great whites!
Our best bit in New York: Craig might it was accidentally finding a Cuban salsa group playing in a wee restaurant the first night. For me, it was probably meeting a retired teacher from James Hamilton Academy (and her husband) at the lifts at the foot of the Rockefeller Center.
We also didn't know what TSA meant - so thank you for that information! Security is a b-i-g issue here. Lots and lots of security staff around at hotels, big shops, etc.
Have I missed anyone's question? If so, I'll get back to you!

Graeme Slicer Glad to see that you are both having a great time...and avoiding tornadoes! :)
