Jean here! Up at 4am yesterday to get our car to LAX. Managed to get decent seats and dozed our way to NY. It was all going too well: before we even left the airport, we got caught up in a security alert and had to stand around for a l-o-n-g time till the police and TSA (who are they, Ochiltree?) decided it was safe to let us go. Then a slow car trip into the city - accidents partly blocked 2 of the roads - and then the shock of Times Square: lights, car horns, thousands of tourists! We were planning an early night to start with, but one look at the hotel food menu and we decided to walk out and find a Mexican restaurant Craig fancied. It was shut for a private function but there was a Cuban restaurant right next door so in we went. Food great (lovely empanadas, Al & Nelly!) and, best of all, on the eve of Craig's birthday, live Cuban salsa with a group of three -keyboards, drums and bass guitar) being joined by a singer who had come in with his wife for a drink - it was great - home quite late after too much food and wine (Margaritas for Craig!) and a 12 hour sleep in! Now at Starbucks and planning to do the open-topped bus tour and maybe the World Trade Centre.

Linda Hair Hi Craig and Jean, Primary 6 and 7 and I are really enjoying your adventures so far. We looked at your photographs today of San Francisco, LA and New York. Gavin wonders if you know what was the name of the first prisoner on Alcatraz. Eoghan and Brandon have found out that TSA stands for Transportation Security Administration, they are airport security. Robert wondered if you knew who was the first and only prisoner to escape from Alcatraz. Kyle wonders what has been your favourite city adventure so far. Danni would like to know what made you choose these particular cities. Peter asks what is your favourite part of New York? Peter has also found out that the Avila House is the oldest residence in Los Angeles. Happy travelling and we look forward to your next blog.
