Jean here. Spending just a few days in Hong Kong - and my, it's hot and humid here - 32 degrees and 90% humidity - much hotter than locals expect and probably going to be even hotter in Singapore and India.
The bit of HK we're staying in is called Harbour City and it's a shopping magnet. So many brand name shops in such a small space, so many people carrying wee bags labelled Dior, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, etc. In Japan, a friend told us 75% of Japanese women own a Louis Vuitton bag and 50% own two! But why? And where do they get the money to buy this stuff?
We did our wee bit for the shopping frenzy by getting Craig fitted for a handmade but plain black suit with no fancy labels or prices - just good craftsmanship and materials. It should be ready for shipping tomorrow so I'll try to put up a photo on the blog tomorrow of Craig in his Blues Brothers finery!

jean nisbet Forgot to say the minimum wage in HK is below $26HK an hour - and there's a real battle going on between unions and bosses over raising it to meet the rise in the cost of living - for example, bread up worldwide 20% in cost in the last year.
Geoff Jean, you'll be pleased to know that it is pouring down here, and the minimum wage has just gone up by 13p an hour at the top, and 7p an hour at the bottom - wowee! Look forward to more photos.
muriel mcdougall Hi Jean and Craig Shopping in Hong Kong sounds good to me. Mmm talking about Louis Vuitton bags - are they cheap in Hong Kong? Me, Debz and Leanne like the sound of that. Can picture Craig in a suit but Craig in a suit with short hair!!!! Look forward to seeing a picture of him in his finery! Mur and Al

jeannisbet @Lindzie, Muriel, Debs, Leanne - cheap?!?! I went looking for flat shoes today and found a Bally shop ib the mall next door to the hotel. I used to like Bally shoes but i nearly dropped the ones I picked up today - $3,790HK - about £330!!!!! @Geoff - the HK minimum wage = about £2.10 an hour - maybe the cost of living is lower but I wouldn't count on it.....
Linda Hair Hi Jean and Craig, the class and I are really enjoying your adventures to Japan and Hong Kong. Morven and Chloe have found out that the Japanese Royal Family is the oldest hereditary monarchy in the world. The current emperor is called Akihito. Eoghan is going to try and find out about the WWII question for next week. Gavin was fascinated by the photos of the Ninjas and wondered if there are still Ninjas in Japan today. Archie thinks you must be really tired with all the travelling you have been doing and Haaris says you must have alot of patience waiting for all the different types of transport during your travels. Jack is curious about Japanese schools and wonders if you know anything about them. Leah asks has Craig tried any anime drawings? Robert also wonders have you read any Manga comics. Look forward to hearing from you next week from India!
