Hi, Ochiltree - Jean here. I liked Archie and Harris's question about travelling being tiring. Yes, it sure is! Today we got to Hong Kong airport at 9 in the morning to find that our flight to Singapore with Cathay Pacific at 11.20 was overbooked. This is very common with airlines.
They offered us seats on the next flight at 14.15 - upgrading us to business class. Plus we were offered $500HK compensation each and an extra 10kgs of baggage weight and entry to the business lounge - which is where I am now ad very nice it is too!
Craig is still on the other side of security saying goodbye to a new friend he met in Hong Kong, so I'm going to leave the questions about Ninjas, anime and Manga for him to answer later on.
At the top of this post, you'll see a photo of Craig being fitted for a suit in Hong Kong: he chose the material on Wednesday, went for a fitting on Thursday and it's being posted to Scotland tomorrow!
Jack asked about Japanese schools. I know the 7 primary years and 3 junior high school years are compulsory, but at 15 young people either transfer to a senior high school or go into training. One of the tour guides told us about her son who wanted to go to a 'good' university in Tokyo. He had to do normal school from 9 to 4 every day and then 7 days a week he went to 'late' school from 5 to 9 in the evening. Then he went home to bed and got up the next day to do it all again. That went on for a year - and when she told us about it, he still didn't know if he'd been successful.
Jobs are hard to come by everywhere right now and Japan is no exception, so young people have to be prepared to work really, really hard. I suppose it's not much fun being 17 or 18 anywhere in the world when you're studying for exams.....

I'm spending my money instead on the spa here in Singapore and on shopping in the nearby malls! Not to mention meals and drinks! Jean
