To be honest I cannot remember when I last posted on my blog. And the worst part is that I have not been writing in my blog either since i lost my pen. But..
Yesterday I took another day off, sitting in the shadows enjoying the view while getting started on a random book I picked up from the reception. Nothing really special happend during the day, since I was just hanging around, taking a swim every now and then to keep my body temperature down, and trying to get started on the book. Around 16:00 PM some of the waiters and chefs on the resort invited me to play some basketball, I probably said this once, but basketball is the number one sport they play in the Philippines. Though still coughing and having a sore throat I engaged in a 1 hour, 30 min x 2 basketball game. The sun was slightly on a decent, but the temperature was high, and running around playing basketball at the same time... wauw it was exhausting... I wont say they are bad, cause to be honest my basketball skills are down the drain, but god, wauw their condition is good. Think i drank 2-3 liters of water after the game, and during dinner I was totally wasted. After getting some food into my system I stayed with the dive instructor, myk, ye I know I wrote Mike before, but he had changed his name to Myk, since his father has the same name, and an experienced german diver to some chitchat and anecdotes. They both had some faar out stories, one of them was how the coast guard around Bohol does not have a boat, nor diving equipment. But... they have a brand spanking new jeep, which have a beautiful logo on it saying coastguard. Aswel, whenever someone had been in need around the flower beach, they had contacted them to go and rescue them, oh right, and without any pay or thank you after they had done the job, the coastguard was supposed to. Another story is abot the military/rescue team divers are as experienced as guy going on a diving vacation for the first time. This story aswel ended up with the divers at flower beach had to come and help, though this time they only gave some equipment and their junior diving instructor just to make sure they did not do anything wrong. Actually now I am thinking about it, I must have mixed yesterday and the day before yesterday together, but both days I have been taking it slow and not been doing anything special inparticular. Though yesterday I made contact with a guy working in Cebu City, credits to Diane Hodel for helping me out there. He said he would try and help me out as much as he could. Also I made a reservation for a place in Cebu City where I am heading tomorrow.
Actually, to go the search of my mother for a moment, I have first, made contact to the adoption foundation, to here if they had any subdivisions on Cebu. They actually did, but the whole foundation is on a seminar, so they can only help me starting next week. The woman, Teresa, also executive director for the office in Manila, send me an address and phonenumber to the adoption office in Cebu City. Secondly I made contact to Barry, the guy working in Cebu City.
Today I wanted to get something done, so I pulled on a longsleved shirt and headed towards Guindalman, a little city a few kilometres from Anda. Instead of using thousands and thousands of pesos in one of the big malls in Cebu I thought maybe why not use less ina local market. Though the market is not that big, they still had a few good things I thought I would bring back home, ye it is a bit early for that, but I was seriously too bored, so I had to do something. This was around 9-10 AM, so I headed back to the resort to go swim, and relax. After lunch, I went into my room to take a siesta, but just as I was comfortable in the bed, some of the waiters came by and asked if I wanted to go to a beach where there is only locals. I thought sure why not, and only brought a bottle of water and my backpack, in strong belief I had everyting I would need. We went at along the coastline as the tide was low, and after a few kilometres we went into the land. I was a bit confused because I thought we were going to the beach, but one of the guys said its a surprise, so I just went along. We walked a few hundred meters into the land and down into a small valley where there was a cave opening. Inside the small cave was a fresh water basin and a dusin local kids splashing around. It was at that point I realized I had forgotten my camera, which I regret alot since it was a spectacular sight. The water was nice and cool, and it felt nice to swim in the small cold pool inside the cave. The only lighting was from the entrance, so you had to be careful where you stepped, at first, but after sometime you got used to the dark. I guess that the locals had been digging the fresh water pool to make it deeper so they could jump from rocks. Actually they also climbed the walls of the cave to 2-3 meters and jumped from there which I found a bit dangerous since the depth was only like 2 meters at maximum in the deep end. But hey, they were locals, and I was sure they knew what they were doing, even though it looked dangerous.
After we had been splashing around one for a little half hour, we headed down to the beach. So okay, I have heard that people from the philippines should be very good musicians, but the people sitting at both of the karaoki machines where awful. The worst part was that the stereo connectin the karaoke machines was set on maximum so even though if you wanted to get away from it you couldnt. So I had to endure them destroying tons of 80s and 90s classics, but hey I guess that was part of the experience. The beach was inside a little cove with rocks on each side, and it was full of philippines, young and old. On the right side of the beach the rocks was high and I watched kids doing insane jumps into the water. The guys I came with said it was fun to do, and told me to come along. So when I was standing at the top of the rocks/cliffs, I got a bit frightend. First, the cliffs were like 3-4 meters high down into the water, hey no problem, I have done worse, secondly the water looked kinda shallow, so I asked them, how deep it was and they said: "No problem 3 meters if you jump faar enough." Yeah, if you jump faar enough... I watched 3 people jump before I thought, I should give it a try and not be a chicken and walk back down. I took in a deep breath, went a few steps back to get a good run-up to get faar enough out. While I was flying, I thought this here is not deep enough and I like panicked mid air. I hit the surface and quickly after getting under kicking my feet upwards, so luckily I only hit my rear a bit. Nothing serious, but it definitely got me not to jump again. I splashed around in the water while watching the other jump for a while. I checked and double checked the depth in between their jumps and seriosuly it was like 180 cm at maximum where they hit the surface. But again, they are used to it, and the probably got some tricks up their sleeves which they forgot to tell me.
But we stayed at the beach for like an hour, and we headed back up to the cave pool, to wash away the salt in the freshwater. After a nice cooling bath in the underground pool, we headed back towards the resort. Since the tide had gone back up, and it was impossible to walk along the coastline without swimming a few places, we decided to walk on solid ground. One of the guys said he knew a short cut, which led through and past cornfields, bananafields, small farms, even smaller sheds where peopel was living, past goats, cows, cats and dogs lying on the small path. Past a cockfighting arena, where there was still feathers all over the place. Past stenches of manour and piss, and atlast back on a familiar road leading down to the resort. Said bye to the guys and went back to my room to relax, since they had planned an even bigger basketball event this afternoon.
I did not really get time to get totally relaxed cause the power was out so the fan was not working, which ment staying indoors was impossible. So I sat in the shadows and again, went out in the water a few times to cool off, till the basketball game begun. I must admit I felt like I was even worse today, probably exhausted from the earlier trip, but again i felt totally exhausted and dehydrated after the game. I was also feeling hungry since i got an early lunch so I decided to go all in on dinner. Bad idea, so being totally stuffed in this heat is uncomfortable. Note to self do not overeat... swetting like a pig here while writing this blog. I have made the last payments to what i have spend on the resort and tommorow before leaving Bohol going on a tour to see the big tourist places on Bohol which ends in Tagbilaran, so I can cut that off my travel expences.
Gonna go early to bed early so I get a goodnight sleep for tommorow.
