So the last 1 and a half day I have been doing alot of things, cannot even remember the most of it in details, and for some reason I have left my log in my cottage.I am the moment a bit wasted after todays dive, so ill try remember as much as possible.
So I think I ended my blog friday 22.04.11 after my first dinner at "Flower Beach Resort". The following morning I was supposed to go on a tour with 2 german girls, but alot of people had to leave / arrive / visit family, so all the resorts cars were unavailable, and made the tour way too complicated so I decided to decline and headed out to snorkel instead. I jumped the boat of the resort which were heading out to the 14 km reef with a 2 divers, splashed around in the the water for one hour or so till they resurfaced and went back on dry land to get some lunch. Yeah, I know its not very detailed, but to be honest there was not anything special. I saw the maritime life around the reef drop.
After the lunch I decided to rent the motorbike, and watch the coastline on my own, while traveling back to Tagbilaran to get my camera fixed. Yeah I have been walking around with a camera that does not work. Had a bit of trouble getting started, but as soon as I hit the mainroads I quickly gained wind in my hair, and could speed a bit up. There was no traffic while I made my way to Tagbilaran, so I could enjoy the road almost by myself, while stopping at the small towns to take a look at the churches. Fyi, driving a motorbike on Bohol is great. Drove in my t-shirt and shorts and I still could feel the hot temperature. Took me like 2 and a half hours to get to Tagbilaran and I quickly found the mall. Entering the mall I felt the coolness of low tempature in the mall. Feeling a bit cold, and regretting not bringing like a longsleeved t-shirt, I found my way to a Fuji store. Sadly they could not fix the camera, since they did not have a technician at the store, so I invested in a similar camera. Went to a small stall and got something to eat, and made my way up to an overrated, rated by lonely planet, netcafe where I spend more time looking at popups than actually reading and finding the things I actually wanted, so I decided to leave again. The time was around 16.30, so I had to get back to the Resort before sunset, cause I did not feel like driving a motorbike in the dark, especially since it was the first time i've driven one.
When I got back to the bike, it could not start, I suddenly felt very chilled. I was lucky, I had parked right outside a motorbike store, and even though it was weekend and late afternoon they were still open. I went inside to get some help, and a friendly young man, helped me getting it started. Got like 250m further and the engine shut down again, this time in the middle of a crossroad and rushhour... So there I was, cars honking at me, tons of locals stopping to enjoy the sight of me blocking the traffic. Must have been a funny sight to see me trying to get out of the way, but atlast a bunch of locals came to the rescue and moved me and the motorbike out of the way. Got it started again on my own, after a few attempts, and this time it did not shutdown. Sadly the road back from Tagbilaran was very crowded and had to make some insane overtakings to get going. Bus', vans, cars, tricycles etc was obstructing, driving around 60 km/h. Everytime I got past a long queue I had like 1-2 kms for myself, then another queue, etc. Atlast I hit the resort past sunset, so I also got to experience of, tons of insects, impossible to spot, smashed out in my face. ( never drive a vehicle without atleast a windshield, after sunset... )
At dinner an elderly german woman, also a doctor who is volunterring with "German Doctors", invited me to walk along the beach to the other resorts down the beach, plus to show me some captive remuras, sea turtles cubs. German doctors is an ngo who works in a "safer" countries to help out the locals. We went with flash lights along the lowtide beach, with small crabs running between our legs. First past a half finished concrete house, where an american had started to build a resort but run out of money in the process. Second, a very classy resort, called "Anda White Beach Resort", where a dutch gently man, had settled with his philippina wife. Both friendly and both speaking very good english. The resort is build up and hill, and on the top is a swimmingpool with a beatiful view to the beach. The restaurant / lounge area was placed right beside the pool, so you could enjoy both pool and ocean while dining. We said our goodbye and went further along the beach, passing La Petra which were our final destination at first to go see the seaturtle cubs. ( pretty sure they are not called cubs, but I cannot really remember the word for them. ) They were placed in a basin with a bit of water, not really the best enviroment, but I guess it is better than the locals eating them. Small, cute and cuddly they were swimming around in the light from our flashlights. We went back to La Petra, where there was live music playing, locals that get to play every saturday night at the resort. All western pop party music. Decent musicians, but I think i've been around too many talented musicians in the past, that I could not enjoy it that much.
The owner was a man from Kosovo, speaking, also a friendly man, who could speak german aswel, which was why the german doctor who took me there knew him pretty well. I sat down with an english girl and had something to drink. As the music played a long the Gabi, the german doctor, joined us with the managers wife, who were interested in my search for my biological mother. Iday was here name, born on Bohol, and very knowlegdable of the families around Bohol. She offered to use some of her contacts around the island to locate, atleast the "lobos" family. She told me that with a specific last name you could almost tell by a 100% certainty that the family lives in "this town." and in my case, she said, my mothers family, probably was from Tagbilaran area. Around 23.30 we decided to go back to the resort since there was a holiday event at 4.00 AM at the nearby church.
Woke up around 3.15 with Gabi knocking on my door. We went down to the reception where we were told to be around 3.30, but we had to wait 30mins for the manager and his wife to show up. Nevertheless we got moving down to the church. The area in front of the church were filled with people. There were all hurdled up infront of a shrine with 8-10 y old girls with white dress and wings on their bag, who started singing angel choirs. Beatiful sight, though girls looked a bit tired being woken up at 3-4 AM in the morning it was a very sweet concert. Afterwards most of the people went inside the church for 1 hour of preaches and songs. When we got out the sun had risen and the crowd scattered along the small roads of Anda. We went back to the resort, and I got to bed, time was around 6 AM.
Got up at 12.00. Got lunch and decided to start my PADI advanced certificate. The diving instructor, an english man, got me through the standard explaination and then off out into the water. The place he took me to, also at the long 14 km long reef, though in the shallow end, was marked with scars from earlier use of dynamite fishing. Though nice to see the life along the reef was returning, it looked, from my point of view, like a coral graveyard try to regenarate. Was diving for about an hour and got topsided just in time to see the sun slowly setting in the horizon.
Now I am sitting at the computer in the resort, trying to upload pictures. But in the time I have been making this blog it couldnt even upload 5 pictures, well atleast not on kilroy. The one I uploaded on facebook, took 5mins. So i'll probably wait till I can find a better computer to start uploading the pictures. Planning on taking the motorbike up to a danish owned resort tomorrow, to enjoy the jungle a bit. Oh and sadly, my throat have begun hurting now.. perfect, just as I arrive in paradise. But I guess the aircon filled restaurants, hotels and malls in manila, have taking its toll on my body, getting heated and cooled down in the time being there. Looking past that minor hurt I am feeling all well. Probably forgot a few things, but hey, as I said I was too lazy to get my log in my room.
