I started class yesterday and it is great! My teacher is awesome and makes the course really interesting. Her name is Natalie and she's from South Africa. Today she wanted to put us on the other side of the foreign language learning experience so she taught us some Afrikaans. She has taught all over the world and is one of the top rated TEFL teachers.
Also, I am happy to find out that all of my Communicative Disorder classes didn't go to waste. A lot of what we are learning in the TEFL course is hugely similar to my education in Comm. Dis. Natalie told me that it is going to be a great advantage for me in the class.
There are 12 students in my class, 10 Americans, 1 Scot, and 1 Aussie. Everyone is really nice and seems to work well together.
I don't have class on Mondays because I do my practice teaching on Fridays. There is a huge annual festival in Palmares, Costa Rica this weekend that's supposed to be really fun. Most of the students are going and then my friend Erica and I are going to swing over to the beach again. This time we are going to Punta Arenas. Not very well known but that's what I prefer.
Also, as a side note, I decided that I'm going to stay in Costa Rica to teach. Juan and I broke up the other day and it would be pointless for me to go to Mexico now. Don't worry, I'm not that torn up about it. It was a mutual break up because we are just at such different stages in our lives. So, this is a good thing! All of the other students are staying in Costa Rica as well so I will have people that I know here instead of going to Mexico blind. The job market for TEFL teachers here is much better too.
Hope all is well back in the states! Miss you all!
