Day 7
Back in Buenos Aires. Jennifer recovered from her travel sickness, so we ventured out for a lazy afternoon stroll in Recoleta, where we saw the upper class parisien sector of BA, did we mention that BA is the Paris of South America, I even procured a tshirt to remind me if this. Desperate for some vitamins, we each had a cazuela and a beer to help sort out the overdose of Steak and Red wine. Back to the hostel for a nap, we ventured out to Palermo Viejo for the evening at 1am as the Argentines dont eat in the evening until after 10pm! We visited a few cocktail bars ending up in a bar/club which was playing the Salford greats the Smiths in BA when we finlçally got in. Avoiding the Fernet we drank a couple more quilmes before heading home for more queso and tostadas.
Day 8
Up late as are all argentines, we headed to Palermo Viejo to stroll the street markets for souvenirs (ethnic tat as Jen likes to call it). Firstly taking in an organic vegetarian dinner to cleanse ourselves of too much meat, we ended the day with a bottle of Syrah and two amazing steaks in La Cabrera where we got random acompaniments with the steak which entailed what can only be described as eggs in thousand island dressing, lentils in cream as well as mango chutney! Both requesting rare steak, Jen was disappointed because as usual hers was the well done one and I secured Rare. Immense! After we polished off a Creme Brulee and Jen a Nespresso (Geek!) we headed home for a couple of Rennies!
Day 9
We left early for Recoleta cemetary where we saw the grave of Eva Peron. What we saw was understated in comparison to the towering Monuments that were left there by ex presidents and politicians. The walk was chilling as bodies werent enterred but left overground in these striking monuments. After our stroll amongst the ceased and famous of Argentina, we walked north to visit some of the parks and the recomended shopping areas, before finishing with a famous Argentina Milanesa and Chorizo to start to set us up for the 17h journey to Iguazu. Ciao Buenos Aires, it has been amazing.
