Hola everyone!
happy birthday to Andrew and Angela (I´m not sure I will be able to get in tomorrow). I hope the party was good fun on Saturday!
We got to Antigua today, after a 6hour journey with the 16 of us crammed into Marco´s van! I was on a normal chair that had been wedged in because there wasn´t enough seats, not the most comfortable in the world when your exhausted!
Antigua is gorgeous! Guatemala is not at all what I expected it to be. Antigua is an old colonial town, and it does remind me of a little town in Spain with its cobbled streets. The background is fantastic, any street you look down there is a volcano in the backdrop. Speaking of, we´re going to climb one of the volcanos tomorrow afternoon. We have been told to take marshmallows so we can toast them, yum!
This place has plenty of Spanish schools, so if all else fails career wise I´ll come out here and learn Spanish haha!
Dinner will be soon but I am looking forward to bed so much! In Rio Dulce there was a thunderstorm all night, it was so loud and kept us all up. I was exhausted too having gotten up at 5am that morning for the kayaking and then doing the jungle trek in the afternoon. The jungle trek was really interesting. It was just me, Erynne and the guide. He told us all about the plants and how the Mayans would use them for medicinal purposes. He has a friend at the University who has ran experiments on the plants used and found that they do contain the correct elements for the illnesses they are used for. We were taken over a rope bridge 15metres above the jungle floor. It was scary! I was walking at the back and the bridge was shaking from the other 2, so I was clinging on for dear life. He also took us to a rubber plantation so we saw how the rubber is extracted from the trees. He was a brilliant guide!
Love to all! xXx
