buenos Dias!
I survived the hike up the volcano, yay! It was amazing! I didn't think I would make it up on the walk up, it was about a 45 minute hike on ash and it was so steep! These guys kept pestering us fir a taxi naturale ( a horse) because they could see us gasping for air. But I didn't like the idea of being in the back of a horse on that steep incline, I trusted by own feet more!
When wegot to the top we got to roast some marshmallows! How many people can say they've had roasted marshmallows on top of a volcano eh! It was volcan de pacaya. If going up was a struggle going down was worth the trip! The guide rodolpho was hilarious! He had us running down, and once you start running you can't stop! I'm glad we ran though it meant we got down before dark!
We didn't go out as a group last night, so be and debbie went for a drink in the local Irish bar, as you do! We ended up chatting to this guatemalan couple, they were so lovely! They've given us their email address so we can arrange to meet then when we're back in Antigua in a few days.
We got the chicken buses out to lake atitlian (I think that's how you spell it). It was quite a journey! Sean, our tour rep, said before we left that these buses were notorious for pickpockets, and it's true! There are two seaters on the buses, but it's normal for then to try and squeeze three in. This guy got on and instead if going to one of the many empty seats, he squeezed on with me and debbie. A while later I saw his hand inching into her bag. I've never moved so quick! I pulled her bag out the way and so he didn't manage to get anything out. But then he carried on sitting next to us for 20 minutes until he got off, awkward!
We stopped off at the chicchicstanango Market, which was quite cool! It's so funny haggling with them! I saw a bracelet I liked And the guy said 25Q, which is like 3USD, I know it's not a lot but it wasn't worth that. I said ten and he said no, so I just walked away, halfway down the street the guy chased after be to give it for ten, yes!
We are just stopped off on the lake tonight, buy we go for the homestay tomorrow, so no wifi. Let you all know how it goes when I'm back in Antigua!
Adiós xXx
