We are coming to the end of our time in Bangkok now and its been a very interesting yet exhausting experience!
We arrived late at the Sawasdee Khao San Inn on Thursday evening, after about a 24 hour journey, to the hustle and bustle of Khao San Road - the backpacker ghetto. The street was buzzing with activity as street vendors sold local delicacies, such as fried insects and the classic pad thai, and tourists indulged in buckets of cocktails and the local Chang beer.
The next morning we met a friendly local Thai couple who gave us some useful advice on what to see and do in Bangkok. We got a tuk-tuk and went to see the Big Buddha and a couple of temples. The driver was brilliant, and pointed out all the sights on the journey. We spent the afternoon in the Siam Square shopping centre where we took shelter from the tropical storm outside. Here we had a delicious meal of Thai Green Curry and Pork Pad Thai.
On our second morning in Bangkok it was such a hot day! We took a tour of the Grand Palace where we saw the famous Emerald Buddha and the Royal Temples. It was a spectacular sight.... however the heat was a bit too much. In the afternoon we took a boat down the Chao Phraya River, which was a great way to see the city. Then we got lost in Chinatown!
Next stop Ko Tao. Looking forward to the peace and tranquility of the beach.
