Today we headed to the White Sands. I have never been in the presence of anything like it before. Miles of pure White sand, an undulated landscape with huge mountains either side. It's boiling hot with no shade. Paul and I get out the plastic pans and slide down the sand. Paul trying a head slide at one point!

We meet Aunt Barbara for lunch at Alamo Grill, a Mexican - Chicken Quesedellas. Aunt B rolls up in her car, low riding. Then I end up riding shotgun and we go on a poncho hunt. No luck today. We drive over to High Rolls, to the Apple Barn Ranch up in the mountains near where Mike used to live. Descent afterwards is breath taking. The winding canyons right down to Alamogordo is stunning.

When we get back to Aunt Barbara's. While we are all sitting at the table out she comes from her bedroom carrying a Harley Davidson bag. Singing a unique rendition of Happy Birthday for Paul which has me in stitches!

Paul and Barbara have an earlyish night and Aunt Barbara joins me out on the front porch and she recollects some very personal and touching stories and I feel blessed to be present. She talks till about 1am before I head off to bed.

So not only do I find her to be one cool dude but an inspiration too!!
