Torquay was all about surfing - Billabong, Ripcurl, etc etc were all thought up by some Aussies here, and its also where the anual Ripcurl surf contest is held, on Bells Beach. We rocked up in our van, and hit the surf pretty much straight away. After a good few hours in the waves we checked out a place called Surf City. Where all the major surf brands have huge department size stores. Great to look at, but seeing as we have no money, we could only dream!!! Looked around for a while, and then retired to our van. Parked up next to another campervan and chatted to them for a while, before going to sleep. Woke up the next day with a crazy idea that we should dye our hair surfer blonde - stupidist idea i have ever had!!! We bought the cheapest dye we could find, and it was cheap for a reason... we went ginger... and i mean proper ginger. Rubbish! So us two carrot tops went for a drive to find another surf beach nearby called 13th Beach. Stayed there all arvo, and then checked into a campsite for a wash and to do some laundry over night. It was nice to be clean and have some clean clothes! The next day, we moved on from Torquay, and along the Great Ocean Road! This was really beautiful, and a great drive... even thought the weather wasn't great. We went the whole way along the road, till we reached Portland. A small fishing town, which was pretty much dead by the time we reached it. Nothing to do but cook our dinner, drink our goon, and sleep! Slept on the high street again - another urban Camping freebie! Moved on first thing to go to Adelaide.
I liked Adelaide - very clean city... like most of the big cities out here. Big shopping mall, and lots to do. We bought some more CD's for our van, as we'd listened to the ones we had over and over about 100 times already! Parked our van by the river for the evening again - very nice spot with another wicked van. They gave us all their food they had as they were finishing their trip that evening... more free stuff woooo!!! In the morning we left for Port Augusta, 'The Gateway to the Outback!'
