In Franz Josef, we arrived fairly late in the day, so went and had a drink in the bar before watching tv and going to bed, becasue in the morning I JUMPED OUT OF A PLANE! Woke up very early (but late as we overslept!!!) and drove to the airfield. Here me and another guy called Simon off the bus got in a very small plane, and were taken up to 12,000ft! Arrived in Christchurch feeling a bit scared as anyone does travelling on their own in a new country does... went out and explored Christchurch. Not a lot to do here for backpackers - stayed in the main square on Christchurch called Cathederal Square, so called for the huge Cathederal right in the middle and a clock tower. In Adelaide, we decided to have a stop for a couple of days after our mammoth drive back from the outback. Port augusta was where we resocked our little van with food, water, spare petrol, fun.... not much else here. Went to the outback centre to get some info on the outback... we realised how far we have to go to get to Ayres Rock - a long way!! In between some towns, there is about a 250km gap... and to call them a town is an overstatement. They are pretty much a petrol pump and not much else.
