From Airlie Beach, we took a 12 hour bus ride (yuck!) to a cattle ranch called Kroombit way in the outback. Arrived quite late, and had a big raost cooked over a fire, then was taught how to crack a whip! Never know when it might come in handy?!?! Then had a few drinks, and rode the mechanical bull they had - not sure if i will ever be able to have kids after being on it, but it was funny! Played a few drinking games round the fire, and spoke to some real Ozzy guys, who were miners in the local town - all the Oz phrases came out - Strewth, fair dinkum, my Sheila, Flaming galaley! Halarious! In the morning, got up early to go goat mustering on horseback for a few hours, very relaxing and a good laugh. Then went goat wrestling, and goat lasooing! Generally messing about with goats! Left Kroombit just before lunch and headed for Harvey Bay. Didn't do much in Harvey except pack for Fraser Island.
The morning after we met our group of ten people to go to Fraser Island. We were given our 4x4, packed it and then were free to do what ever we wanted!!! Caught the ferry over to the island for about 12, and spent the first day driving through the rainforest, and driving up the beach looking at the wrecks and amazing views on the beach. Camped on the beach with the other group, so there was about 40 of us all together - had a bbq, drunk some goon (Oz Wine), we dug a huge whole about 8ft deep for no reason, but it was funny... people came all the way down the beach to see it. We had to lower people in and out of it it was that deep! Neaxt day we drove up to the north end of the island, swam in the champagne pools, so called because the waves breaking over the rocks in the pools make it look like champagne bubbles - could have stayed in there for the whole day. Then visited a few lakes and swam with the turtles for the afternoon. Camped again on the beach, where we all had another bbq, drank more goon, had a lot of fun! On the last day on the island, we went to Lake Makenzie for the day, where the water was crystal clear and the sand really white. Just swam and played games on the beach till we had to come back. Could have stayed on Fraser for a lot longer and wished i could have stayed longer. Had sand in every place imaginable, including my sleeping bag which was like wrapping yourself in sandpaper each night, didnt sleep that well! But Fraser was the best thing i've done in Oz so far - met so many wicked people, and had a great laugh! Loved it! Have just made it to Brisbane and from what i have seen its a nice clean city, with lots to see and do!
