So last Monday I went to Keziah and Rosie's project in Myanzi, near Mityana. I was there until Thursday and had a lovely time visiting their schools and even got cake and wine on my birthday! Who knew it was possible?! So huge thanks to them. We also tried to visit the clothes market in Mityana on Wednesday, but turns out we got the wrong week! We were also supposed to meet a boy from the UK, who is also here on a gap year, but MTN - the phone network - was down so was impossible to arrange. So overall the day didn't go much to plan but we enjoyed having a wonder around the town anyway. They also made delicious pumpkin soup, and the pumpkin curry wasn't half bad either. They even have MARMITE. It's amazing how many different things you can eat with marmite!
On Thursday I went back and stayed the night in Mukono (on my own!). There was the nice surprise of the electricity being back on when I got back which is always good. The next day I packed my bags - again - and headed down to Molly's project in Kitega. Keziah also came to Molly's later that evening. We had a nice night just chatting. And, even better news, their rat problem has just about been solved with some cement in the roof so didn't hear a single rat that night! On Saturday we caught (after a brisk run) the shuttle bus to Jinja and met seven other volunteers. Some of us went into the market for a look around and also had some lunch. But not after it absolutely chucked it down with rain and even HAIL. So the market was a bit muddy to say the least! Later on, after dinner, we al got our glad rags on and had a good night out to celebrate Finn turning twenty. The next day was a lazy one and since we had Monday off (another public holiday due to the elections!) we stayed in Jinja on Sunday night too. On Monday Molly came with me back to Lukojjo and spent the night at my project. After having dinner she got the grand tour, which lasted all of thirty seconds. Was cherishing every minute of not being on my own at project since my partner doesn't come back until Friday, that's a lot of Isla time! Later that night (at 10.30pm!) I found out the school was going to be closed for a second day (this time for International Womens Day). So Molly didn't get to visit the school but I'm sure she will next time! We had lunch then she had to head back to her project.
So this week is a short one with only three days at school (not complaining!). As I said before, my partner Roxanne comes back on Friday so unsure of any weekend plans yet!
