Last Wednesday I ventured into Kampala ..solo! Had to visit Dr Stockley at the Surgery to restock my doxy supplies, also went to the post office (nothing had arrived.. not particularly surprised!) and then went to Garden City. Sat in a nice (expensive) cafe and had a chocolate croissant ..amazing!
Last weekend we headed across to Jinja. Left on Saturday morning, took us about an hour to get there. Found Jinja is a really nice little town. All the nice shops/cafes that Kampala has but without the hoards of people. In fact it sometimes seems like a ghost town, but we're not complaining! Had a nice day hanging around with everyone in backpackers (it's not as bad as it sounds okay haha) then later on we got our 'glad rags' on and headed into town for dinner. After we braced ourselves for the Jinja club scene. Were pleasantly surprised in fact! Found a club called Sombreros which played an interesting mix of African music, Kesha and Justin Bieber. We also found out Ugandans do not stop dancing.. when they pay 5000USh entry fee they will arrive at 11 and stay dancing till 5 at least.. mad!
This weekend we are in Jinja again but this time for rafting and a 'sunset booze cruise'. Did the rafting yesterday, was so good but so scary! We rafted for about 6 hours with a break at lunchtime for pineapple and biscuits (skillfully prepared on an upturned kayak used as a worktop in the safety boat). Afterwards we had a delicious bbq at Bujagali Falls. The rapids themselves included a 5 metre drop which we did stay upright for.. But when we did tip (and when I got thrown out haha) it was pretty scary as it felt you were sucked under water for like 5 minutes, then the boat would usually run on top of you and keep you under a bit longer, just to keep you on your toes. It was very different from the mild rafting id done before in the Tay.. But it was SO much fun despite the sunburn and aching limbs the next day! We have the Nile Booze Cruise tonight which will be amazing I'm sure.
Only about 10 days till I'm home now, feels very surreal! but of course v excited! :)
