Unfortunately, when we got to Saint George, the river cruise wasn't running so we had to make do with other experiences. Brett and I went for a ride around the town in a 99 year old Model T Ford. We also visited a shop with an exhibition of hand carved emu eggs. What an interesting man. Stavros, the artist, who came to Australia as a teenager and is a self made man, never went to school - although he married a school teacher. He became a boxer and kangaroo shooter. His family now run the shops for him which sell coffee and explosives, and exhibit his artwork. We spoke to his grandson who turned 19 today. One of the others working in the shop had been in the Navy at the same time as Brett, and was also a kellick stoker.
We drove to the nearby Riversands Vineyard where we stocked up on wines and had a leisurely lunch. After lunch it was time to travel to our next camp in Bollon. The road was quite rough, but there were highlights - we saw many kangaroos, goats, cattle and sheep. The countryside, although flat all the way, was continually changing.
