Perth, 11/02/2010Hi guys! Finally, I am in Perth! It was a long journey but interesting :) You want to hear it all? Fine, but I suggest that you get yourself a cup of coffee or tea and take at least 1 hour to read my story through... Here we go:My adventure started at Schiphol, where I had to say goodbye to my mother and my sister. It was quite sad but I managed to stay strong and before I knew I was on the plane to Hong Kong. On the plane, I sat down near a girl my age :) I soon found out that she came from Finland and was on her way to Taiwan, where she would undertake her internship to become a priest! I thought it was very interesting, as I have never heard of someone wanting to become a priest or anything related to theology. Do you? Anyway, she was very kind. As this was my first journey outside Europe, I was amazed by the facilities offered on the plane (I flew with Cathay Pacific). I had a screen in front of me and could listen to music and watch movies! I watched \'Love happens\' :P... I received two meals per flight. To give you an idea of the food offered: pork meat, potatoes, a humble amount of vegetables, and dessert (cake and/or fruit). It was quite okay :) As the crew was serving meals according to the time in Hong Kong (at least, that\'s what I think...), I didn\'t manage to eat the second meal on my first flight. It was then breakfast time but in the Netherlands, it was almost midnight! My body said no when I was served very sweet bread and cake. The sight of it made me nautious already :S... There was some turbulence on board as well that contributed to my state of conditions. Fortunately, I set foot on earth again when arriving in Hong Kong. I didn\'t have much time to go into town but instead waited at the airport. There I met an interesting man from America. He has just completed a degree in anthropology and returned from Nepal, where he did voluntary work for children and women. He sat just behind me and when I turned around, looking for a Dutch person to ask whether I could use his/her cell phone (didn\'t have network connection on my phone! :S...), I saw his blond hair. That must be a Dutch person I thought (I must admit that this is nonsense! But forgive me, I was kinda jet lagged :P) and then made contact with him. He smiled and said something in English. Soon we talked about human life and Paulo Coelho :P (I was reading a book of him. A tip for people who have trouble making contact: talk about a book that the other person is reading! ;)) He told me that he originally came from Israel! I have never seen people from Israel but he was intelligent and quite handsome :P One day in the future, when I enter a book store, I might find a book of him :P Let\'s see if he mentions me in the acknowledgment section :P... After a while, I could get on the second plane. I got to sit close to the exit in the middle of the plane. Good, you might think, but it was not comfortable :S.. Now an aged Asian man came to sit next to me. I guess he has never experienced advanced technology in his entire life, as he was very clumsy while he was trying out the screen and its remote control... Of course I helped him! :P But I also let him try himself and wondered whether he would ever ask me, a young Asian woman, for help. He never did. Finally, I arrived in Perth. I thought that I could get my luggage and leave the airport right away but I was wrong. The Australian customs were very strict on what you brought into their country. There I was, standing in a long queue... sigh :P. Fortunately, I didn\'t have anything illegal in my luggage and could go to the exit, where my supervisor waited for me :) He picked me up by car and showed me some parts of Perth (When doing this short trip, it was dark already, so I couldn\'t see much :P). I stayed at his place and slept long... 12 hours! :S... But it was wonderful to sleep :) I heard some sounds outside, as my window was slightly open. Something was going through the bushes... That was creepy.... I wondered what it could have been.. couldn\'t see much, as it was dark (Yes, I stood near the window, facing a potential threat!) I was imagining that suddenly a person would appear in front of me and say: \'boe!\' Haha, it sounds funny now but if that would have happened for real... The next day, my supervisor brought me to my accommodation. I met my housemates :) They were very nice to me and showed me their house and my room, where I am at the moment. Then we did some grocery shopping. I bought a lot! Already spent 100 Australian dollars! :S It\'s not very cheap in Perth, or perhaps I visited an expensive supermarket... I miss the Aldi :P...And for dinner I ate pizza, which my housemate prepared! :) Very tasty! Gonna learn to make a pizza too one day! Tomorrow I will probably eat at my supervisor\'s place. But first I will stroll around on the campus and find my way from home to school and back. It seems to be still like 30 minutes walking... Well, it\'s good to exercise! ;)That\'s it for today. It\'s past 1am now, I\'d better get some sleep now :) Thanks for spending time sharing my adventures and we\'ll hear from each other soon!
