Hi Guys, thank you for joining us on the caravaning across the top. I will try to update this as much as possible.
It was with mixed emotions we left Perth. Through the tears we managed to confuse the Nav man because we couldn't concentrate on the road names and listen to the instructions at the same time.
Our aim is to get to Tom Price to have 3 days at Caragini National Park. The puppies will not be impresed as they are going straight into the kennels for the duration of our stay there. So, it is a mac run to Mount Magnet but we have to stop at Wogarno for the puppies sake.
First stop was Dalawaninu - not much there but a good puppy park, friendly people and a great tuna salad sandwich.
Wogarno for the night. Off the main road (15k's). All I could think of was Wolf creek. We were the only ones there! One guy travelling on his own staying at the homestead with a heart patch sewn into his jeans. He was stoking the fire that was heating up the water for the shower. Must say the shower was very impressive when one could dodge the grass hoppers and ciccadas. Calming myself down went back to the van, cooked up some dinner on the stove and sat down for a glass of 'O' and watched the night sky come to life! Saw a falling star, has to be a good omen. Bed by 8 - that will come as a great surprise to the people who know us well!
Day 2 - Leaving Wogarno a little later that desired s we have a big trip to Newman ahead. I do the first leg - Yep I am towing the caravan. My concern is , how may fngers do I hold up for the obligatory salute. Do I hold up 1, 2, the whole hand and wave, the left hand, the right hand or do I buck the tradition and ignore everyone. Well of couse I can't so I will have to see what gets the most response and let you know. We survived the first night and the potential murderers. Leaving Wogarno on that long dirt road a very drowsy emu decided to stroll across the road, it was so funny because you could see the penny drop - he finally realised that he was on the road and that a car was coming right for him! There were feathers, legs and a head flailing about everywhere!
Meekatharra - well!! There is nothing much there besides the Keepers of our national heritage and a massive cutting. Quite impressive on the drive in but nothing to potograph or to write about. We did grab some groceries and high tail it out of there but, in our haste forgot to get the coffee that we were so desperately needing. Apparently Hugh did sk and there is NO where in Meekatharra to get a coffee- how odd! Where to get a coffee....... where else bt a truck stop where the truckies drink for free and we travellers pay big bucks for the privelege. Kumarina will not go down in history as having a good cuppa - certainly not a poppies coffee but they do have frogs in their toilets! Lisa and Linda - I can hear the squeals of horror and delight.
Tonight we landed in Newman. A little later than preferred but we did manage to dodge all the stray cattle and thank goodness no Roos. Hugh put a roo detracting device on the front of the car. Don't know if it worked but we certainly didnt see any roos tonight. Did see a lot of road kill and wedge tail eagles.
Favourite things thus far - the Frogs, the falling star, the quietness, the emu and the freedom.
