Hi Guys. It's 10 at night, the caravan park is dead to the world and I am sitting here actually quite cold. Pip is sitting on the couch with me and we are keeping each other warm. It is 4 weeks today and it feels like 4 days. I am glad we are keeping this blog because it makes us look at what we have fit in thus far.
Yesterday we went on an organised tour, yes we were the youngest ones there which is so good for the ego. It's great being the youngst ones for a change. We did the whole day tour which took us through lake Kununurra, the Ord and Lake Argyle. Lake argyle is a man made lake that was dammed in the 70's to control the flow of lake kununurra so that the agriculture was not flooded every year by the torrential rain falls. The land was owned by the Duracks who ran cattle and were very much pioneers and early environmentalists. They donated half of their WA property, 500,000 acres which is what we see today under water. When we were traveling on the lake it is impossible to describe the size. Yes it hold 21 times the amount of water in the sydney harbour, yes it is 50 /70 Kms in size, yes it could supply the whole of NSW's water for the year from 7 days of flow off, yes it can power supply the whole of perth for the year from one hour of water flow, yes it is home to 2/3rd's of Australias water bird species and population, it habitats 25,000 freshwater crocs, it has the only isolated islands of Euro wallabies, 1 days evaporation is equivilent to 1 sydney harbour, the dam wall is made up of stones quarried less than a km away, no cement or artificial products...It goes on and on. To say it is big is an understatement, all I can say is that we travelled 20 minutes at 20knotts and we only covered 1/3. Looking into the distance the water was meeting the horizon so there was at least another 50 ks to travel. Big place!
We did the whole sight seeng thing and we had some champagne at sunset - very romantic!
Today was an easy day, dad and Hughie did some bonding, Dad was trying to teach Hughie how to catch Barra. Carrie, pip, heidie, mum and me went to spy on them but even with our expert advice they could not catch a tricky little bugga! We were at the crossing which is the over flow section of the Kununura. As you can see in picture the water is flowing pretty fast and about 20cms deep. You cannot keep Pip away from hughie, she was determined to get to him, rushing water or not. I walked with her and the force of the water was pushing her into my legs, it was so funny ,she was paddeling for dear life even though she was getting no where. Mum managed to grab her because I had to take the old girl back to the car, pip headed for high ground. Carrie is getting older by the day but it is funny , everybody thinks that she is the younger one out of the 2. She still looks fantastic and she does have moments of bounding energy that are now fleeting and short lived. She is loving the caravan and sleeping all day. She is getting more deaf and blind but there is nothing wrong with her sence of smell, oh yeah, she can smell a bone a mile away.
So my friends, life is good and traveling is highly recommended. Do it! The only down side is we don't have you to share in the fun ........
Love you all and miss you more. Pc and Hughie, Pip and Carrie. We heading off to the NT tomorrow, Bye WA
