I booked tickets for the Taming of the Shrew at the Globe theatre about 6 months ago. At that time there were very few tickets left. Kristen managed to book the last ticket in my section which seat was right in front of me a couple of days later. I am so glad we planned that far ahead as the place was packed.
The Globe theatre itself is such a neat place to visit. To actually see one of shakespeares plays there is even better. And Taming of the Shrew was one I wanted to see (always preferred the comedies).
Those guys can act. It was incredible! The performance itself was about 3hours long. There was a short intro type skit before the play started and after intermission (which involved the dirtiest performance of a song about a "cuckoo nest" and maidenhead. The tone fit the play really well.
Taming of the Shrew was hilarious, even if you cannot comprehend half of what is said the actors bring it to life and include slapstick comedy.
I would do it again happily!
After the play Kristen and I wandered the riverfront, looked at parliament and big ben (renamed a few days ago) and made our way to Brick Lane for curry. Good thing we gave purselves lots of time as it took forever to get there thanks to half the lines on the tube not working! Apparantly this is standard for a weekend. And frustrating. After dinner, we actually took a red double decker bus to Highgate to avoid the tube.
People rave about curry in London. Frankly, wasnt impressed. Partly because of what I ordered (listened to the waiter, thought I was getting one thing but it turned out to be completely different). There was nothing special about the food that elevated it into this amazing thing people rave about. Ah well, may give it another go before I leave as it may have been the restaurant.
Brick lane then turned bedlam after dinner due to a music festival. People everywhere, cops trying to close the street, smashed glass forming a carpet underfoot and general idiotic happenings.
Oh yeah, and its freaking cold.
