Bath is beautiful. The entire town is a world heritage sight and its easy to see why. As part of the trip I was on to Stonehenge and Bath it included entrance to the Roman Baths (what kicked everything off in the first place). You cant swim in the baths as the water is too dirty. During the Roman times there was a roof which helped prevent the growth of algae in the waters of the main pool. The spring which feeds the pool still flows though-it's a constant 35 degrees. At one point they channeled the spring into a constantly flowing tap where you can put your hands under and even taste it (it doesnt taste very nice but the temparature of the water is lovely).
It also used to be a bit of the shrine/temple to Minerva and offerings would be made to her. There is a pool where you can throw and coin in and make a wish. Due to the lighting in the area and the shiny coins, looking into the pool is like looking at a very starry sky complete with a bit of the Northern Lights. It is pretty beautiful, my photos dont really do it justice.
I was on the trip to Bath with someone I met on the trip around Eastern Europe - it was perfect timing as she was due to fly back to Australia the next day and wanted to see Bath and Stonehenge before leaving. She managed to drop her camera in one of the exhibits where it fell about a metre before wedging itself between the glass plate and the rock (it was the floor of what was the steam rooms back in the day). She was lucky because beyond this rock there is about a 3m drop to the bottom which would have completely broken the camera. The staff at the Baths thought it was one of the best drops of the year due to its location. The camera was eventually successfully fetched using a pair of long tongs. And still in working order.
We then had a bit of time to explore Bath, wander around and marval at the buildings and gardens, by fudge (good fudge too) and try to work out why the swans where a blue grey colour (they had white plummage underneath so they may have been teenagers who hadnt turned completely white yet). The swans did not like the ducks which lead to some amusement as the ducks were chased by one swan in particular.
