Segovia, take two. Made it this time. I teamed up with a girl from the hostel who also wanted to visit.
I had two main reasons I wanted to visit-a pristine Roman Aqueduct and the Alcazar (a fairy tale castle rumoured to have inspired Disney in his creation of Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella's castle). There is also a beautiful gothic cathedral worth checking out.
The aqueduct was everything I hoped it would be. It went on for quite some distance, connected to the city and was of decent height. Its also in really good shape. The castle was also great. There was some serious gold on the ceiling! I could just see Cinderella waltzing through the castle. And I am sure that the aqueduct helped keep the moat full back in the day (I have nothing to back up that theory though, it just fits in nicely with my world view).
The downer of the day was the weather and food. Cold was the order of the day (and Im not just referring to the weather!). It also rained off and on-quite heavy at one point. However, the town itself was charming and I am glad I made it. It also meant I could travel on the high speed train-it got to 249km/h at one point-awesome!
