So much can be said about Dali and so much has been said. All I can add is that there is a reason he is my favourite artist (not kidding-ever since I saw a faded copy of his Persistence of Memory (the melted clocks one) when I was a kid, I think it was hanging on the door of someone's bathroom). Unfortunatelt that painting is located in a museum in New York (MOMA). But Dali did paint a copy of it on a wall in his museum in Figueres-the Dali Theatre Museum. He converted an old theatre in his hometown into a masterpiece. Every room has different works, a different focus or a different style. There are surprises everywhere including over doorways, on lamps and in the nothing spaces by stairs. Dali himself is also buried there, right in the middle of the stage.
Paintings and works such as the Mae West room and the 'naked Gala looking at the sea but when you move back it becomes a portrait of Abraham Lincoln'. That was incredible. It also houses a showcase of jewellery he designed. The pieces are beautiful. One called the royal heart made of rubies actually beats like heart.
One fantastic reaction to a piece was by this father with two young boys (like around age 10). One of Dali's sculptures is a completely naked woman just standing there. She is anatomically correct. You just round a corner and there she is. Well this father rounded the corner with these two boys. He tried to hide it from them, but it was too late. Besides, they're 10, im sure theyve seen worse in grand theft auto 3.
So yes, it was a bit of an expensive side trip, but one I had to take.
