Flying from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore takes about one hour and there are around thirty flights a day but by train the journey is a heck of a lot longer, a tad more complicated and kind of three trains a day. From KL Sentral station to JB Sentral station it was an eight hour journey, upon arrival at JB (that is Johor Bahru in southern Malaysia) we had to buy another ticket to get across the causeway to the Singapore Woodlands Checkpoint which was just a five minute trip. We did however have over an hour to kill to grab a coffee and then go through Malaysian customs and immigration control before the departure of the next shuttle service to Singapore. The word 'shuttle' seems a little bit strange as there are probably less than half a dozen trains a day crossing between the two countries - none of which connect with the main long distance services. Once you get to Woodlands you then have to clear Singapore immigration before heading into the city. The journey would need a bus/taxi to the nearest MRT (Metro) station or, in our case, a taxi straight to the hotel. However you look at it this last few miles is a bit messy so I think we will fly next time . . . . . . . it seems the sensible and easy option and maybe this is what the railway authorities really want?

Sweeney Where's the food?
Andy Holt A restaurant car was lacking on this trip sadly and the sandwiches looked less than appetising. A day of snacking as we travelled south . . . . . Singapore will not disappoint when I complete that entry!
