The little trip across a big ocean
The last couple of days have been very subdued. I spent quite a bit of time studying to get caught up in Genetics and Burttie picked up some work. The afternoons have been bike rides along beaches, trails, and roads. Today we drove to the You Yangs and hiked Flinder's Peak. From the top you can see Melbourne and the smog, which is cool and unsettling. The hike was good, though it didn't take long - maybe 40 minutes. Then we went in search of koalas, but to no avail. Burttie and I discussed Aboriginals, indigenous people, and the like. We are on opposite sides of the spectrum. He thinks they were here first and we owe them, since we took their land. I think that none of us were originally here, that they fought each other for the same land, and that conquering countries don't have to give up large tracts of land to the loosers. Lets just say the debate was hearty! The last couple of nights have been subdued, with me studying and making travel plans to Alice Springs/Ayers Rock. Its been a nice pace and I have enjoyed the company, but I will be happy to pick up the pace in Melbourne and Alice Springs. Hope everyone is doing well!!
