The plan for today was for Sherry, Ron and Evelyn to visit the Tower of London (takes about 3 hrs.) while I went elsewhere, since Jim and I had done it 2 years ago. So we arranged to meet at the Starbucks near there at 1:00 and I headed to "The British War Experience". Interesting displays and videos about the London blitz, but didn't take too long. I then decided to go the British Museum, but it took a while to get there, even on the tube, so it was a short visit. But the architecture alone was worth the visit -- interesting blend of old and new. Meanwhile the others enjoyed the Tower of London, but were disappointed to miss some of the Crown jewels usually on display there. Today was the opening of parliament (speech from the throne) and the Queen was wearing them!
After reuniting, we headed to St. Paul's cathedral for a 90 minute tour, including the crypt, which Jim and I missed last time. The organist was practicing, making it hard to hear the tour guide at times. It was raining lightly, but from there we walked across the Millenium Bridge to the Globe Theatre (see pic) which we then toured. By then we were getting hungry so we had some drinks and food nearby at The Anchor, one of the oldest pubs in London.
Next on the itinerary was dinner and a Jazz concert in the crypt at St. Martin in the Fields. It turned out to be quite a large "big band" which we thoroughly enjoyed. Especially Ron, who struck up a conversation with the tuba player. It was quite a lengthy concert too, so we didn't get back to the hotel until around
11:00.
Another great day of sightseeing, and we definitely got our value from the
2 day London Pass!

Jim Michals Right on - Herb and Sherry- sounds like the British Museum kind of underwhelmed. Did Ron tell the tuba player about his top of the line Russian tube. Would like to see Ron playing tuba in lederhosen in a German brass band- I know he could teach them a thing , or two.
