I feel like i'm on a summer holiday!Well new orleans is subtropical and right down near the equator. Today was our last day in orleans as we leave for memphis tomorow lunch time. We had a coach tour of pretty much all of whats worth seeing in new orleans, including a focus on areas worst affected by hurricane katrina. The area of lower ninth ward is full of rundown or abandoned homes, the homes have markings on their front doors which were put on by the american forces who were called in in the direct aftermath to ascertain who was dead or alive, a pretty grim task, and they marked on the houses the details in form of numbers, pretty grim to still see the markings 4 years later. Some areas hit were flooded with up to 15 feet of water and there are empty plots where houses once stood. We saw some neighbourhoods of beautifully unnaffected homes whoes neighbours homes no longer existed. We then went to city park, a 1300 acre park with pretty ponds and trees with moss like stuff hanging down. It was a really good tour as we got to see where the levies actually broke and saw the longest bridge across water in the world, the one across the ponchartrain water. My neck did ache after though, your told to look left, look right about 20 times a minute, was quite funny. We then got off at the French market in the french quarter that was heaven for funky jewelry and souvenirs. We then walked down Gov'Nicholls street where brad and angelina live!We couldnt find the exact house but we probly walked past it, she didnt try to adopt me sadly. We then walked around the french quarter and bourbon street and went home after chilling in various areas. Anyway, got a long journey to Memphis tomorow, pretty much 9 hours!Much love xxx
