So yesterday we had quite a chilled day. After breakfast we caught a cable car up a big hill to union square & wandered round some shops. We then caught a tram back to fishermans wharf where we had soup in a bread bowl for lunch (it's famous apparently). We then wandered round the shops (mainly food shops) on pier 39 before boarding the boat to Alcatraz. Alcatraz is a famous prison (apparently - tho I'd never heard of it but I don watch enough films with baddies in them!) and it's on an island just off the coast of san fran. It's falling down now and hasn't been used since the 60s. It was an interesting tour detailing the prison routines and some failed escape stories, the best bit i thought tho was the view of the san fran skyline all lit up (we chose to do the night tour) - pics to follow. Unfortunately the prison being on a rock in the sea was a little chilly & Jo bored of watching me try figure my camera settings out we got the boat back to the city, ate Chinese food at a Michelin recommended restaurant (and I would recommend it! r&g lounge on kearny st) and headed for bed
