Tuesday saw Jo & I board another tour bus to napa & sonoma to sample some grape juice
It was an 8.30 start and incidentally while waiting for the bus to leave we saw 3 crazy people swimming in the ocean - despite glorious sunshine it was about 3oC outside!! It was a 2 hour drive trhough pretty countryside to the first vineyard in napa - the Madonna estate. We got to sample a couple of whites & then some reds, all very nice. We then headed to the Sutter Estate. Sutter is one of the lower priced wines similar to blossom hill & echo falls but they were all very drinkable. By this time it was nearly 1 and it was off to Sonoma for lunch. Somoma is a quiet little town full of ladies that walk their dogs and lunch (Jo was impressed with the amount of dogs!). The final vineyard was Sebastani and despite being the last stop it's the one I remember most about! The Chardonnays (one unoaked, one oaked) weren't that great but the reds were very nice, my faves were the 2007 merlot and the 2008 cabernet sauvignon - and I think you can buy both in the UK - but the price will go up in 18mths as they had a bad grape harvest this year so buy it while you can!
After arriving back in san fran (via the golden gate bridge) we headed to our local Mexican again for more wine & yummy burritos, all for a bargain $20 J
