We woke up to a very hot sunny day, we had breakfast at 9.45am at 'A K Home' restaurant as we liked the food there. Jay had pork rice soup with egg and enjoyed it. Helen had a pancake with fruit salad and yoghurt, the pancake was so tasty and thick, Helen could not finish it.
After breakfast, we browsed around the shops, we both bought a top each. After this, we met up with Lee to go to the bars by the river for drinks. We all decided to walk along the river bank instead of tubing again to save money. We started off at the 'Q Bar' and had some drinks here. Helen tried the organic mulberry shake which was tasty, it was like a fruity milkshake. After the 'Q Bar', we walked to 'Bar 1' and had more drinks. We bumped into Emma and Angela (from New Zealand), the girls we met yesterday and chatted to them. After 'Bar 1' we moved onto the 'Jungle Bar', we met a guy called Connor from Idaho, he was working at this bar on a temporary basis. He was really nice and laid back. He asked us whether we would like to play drinking games with him, we thought it would be fun to do so. We played a drinking game using playing cards, four English people joined in with us: Claire from Essex who was teaching English in Bangkok, her husband Stuart who was a professional golfer, her father Bob and her brother Danny. They were a great laugh and a group of characters. Claire mentioned that Jay and Connor looked like brothers (as we looked back on the photos, we could clearly see where she was coming from). We all chipped in for a large bucket of mixed alcohol, we also had a
free cherry flavoured shisha with the bucket of alcohol. We all smoked
this whilst we played the card game. Claire drank a bit too much and was getting
really hyper. The last bar we went to was the 'Fluid Bar' where we met Gregg from
Durham, he was running this bar with his brother and Laotian friend. He was
friendly and talked about his travels around Asia, he recommended us to visit Busan
Beach in South Korea. At this bar, Jay had a bottle of 'Lane Xang' beer. Gregg let us try a proper Laos papaya salad, this was very hot but very tasty.
As the sun was setting, we all got the tuk yuk back for 10,000 LAK each. A couple
of minutes into the journey, Lee who was a bit tipsy, realised he left his camera at
the Fluid Bar. We all shouted for the tuk tuk driver to stop, Lee ran out of the tuk tuk to get his camera and he was lucky it was still there as Gregg had found it and
kept hold of it for him.
For dinner we went to 'A K Home' restaurant again, Jay had hamburger and chips
as he needed a big hearty meal to soak up the day's alcohol. Helen had fried fish with lemon sauce and steamed rice. We both thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Lee
spotted us in the restaurant and we all walked to the 'Aussie Bar' to meet Claire and her family. When we arrived, they were not there but they turned up shortly, having accidently overslept. Lee, Claire and her family all had dinner here. After they had finished eating, they took us to a bar where they had a 'special menu'. Claire and her family had a smoke, it seemed as though it went to Danny's head, he fainted and fell off his seat. After a few seconds, he woke up and was fine. Whilst this was going on, Jay got chatting to a Frenh guy who was interested in Polynesian tattoo and was asking where Jay got his done. Jay gave him information on the artists who did his tattoos.
We all decided to call it a night except for Lee who chose to go to the 'Q Bar' after saying goodbye. Jay got a ham and cheese baguette from a street seller for tomorrow's journey to Vientiane. Whilst waiting fo the baguette, a fight kicked off
outside the 'Q Bar'. It appeared that it was just drunk idiots (westerners).
