We had breakfast near our guesthouse at 9.30am. We both had 'jok' (rice soup), pork rice soup with egg. It was very tasty and flavoursome. After breakfast we walked back to our room and it turned out that the guy Jay spotted earlier was actually staying in the room next door to us, his name was Lee from Liverpool. We got chatting to him, he was very friendly and chatty.
It was a perfect sunny day to go river tubing, we made our way to get our tubes (inner tube of a tyre), it cost 55,000 LAK to hire out the tube plus 60,000 LAK deposit. We had to return our tubes before 6pm to get our deposits back. Whilst getting our tubes, we bumped into Lee again, he said he will join us later. We got a tuk tuk to the river, during the ride we met a couple of girls from New Zealand, Angela and Emma, they were also friendly.
It took about 10 minutes to get to the river, we crossed over the wooden bridge to get to the first bar called the 'Q Bar'. The atmosphere was fantastic, there was loud music and it was very busy. There were people playing 'beer pong', the object of this drinking game is to get the ball into the opponent's cup then he/she will have to drink.
We both had a can of Beer Laos at this Q Bar. It was here that we did the first
swing into the river. Lee saw us here and joined us. We enjoyed the swing so much, we had a few goes on it.
We did the first part of the tubing on the river to make our way to the next bar
called 'Bar 2'. We had a drink here then moved on to another bar called 'Jungle Bar' with a fun looking slide. We both had a few goes on this aswell. After this, we
'tubed' along the river to the next bar and saw a big slide made out of bathroom tiles. This was such a big slide, it was very wide, people were able to slide down it
with a tube. Helen went first and slid down without her tube as she felt more
comfortable doing this rather than with a tube. Jay slid down afterwards using his
tube, he had to be pushed down by a local as the rubber tube was sticking on the
slide at the top. Jay was spinning all the way down the slide at a high speed, it was so much fun, we loved it.
As it was nearly 6pm, we went to one last bar called the 'Fluid Bar', Jay tried a new
Laos Beer and thought it was really nice. We got a tuk tuk back, returned our tubes and got our deposits back. We could see that many people stayed out after 6pm as
they were getting into the drinking.
We had dinner at the 'Aussie Bar', Jay had a laos steak with chips which was really bad, the meat was chewy! Helen had a hamburger and chips for a change. The
burger was tasty but the chips were greasy. After dinner, we went to a bar for drinks.
