2 days ago we arrived in a small town called Puno. Puno is right next to Lake Titicaca so yesterday our group embarked on a boat and we taken to an island to have some lunch (fresh trout) and then we were taken to another island where we were billeted with local families to stay the night. Our mum and dad (in their fifties) had a boy about 15 years old. We took a few presents such as sugar, rice and pasta which is customary to do. They took us to their local soccer pitch where we played a game of soccer against other tourists. It was very tiring as lake titicaca is around 4000m above sea so after 5 mins of running around i was knackered.
Our family fed us a massive vegetarian meal consisting of soup and vegies which was nice and then they dressed us up in their local atire and took us to the local hall for a fiesta. The fiesta consisted of them dragging us onto the dance floor and teaching us the local dance.
This morning we were woken early to pancakes and coffee and then waved good bye to our parents to get back onto our boat. Our boat then took us to the floating reed islands. The island we stopped at had 8 families on the island. The islands are free floating, they can be moved if need be. After learning a little bit about their way of life we were back on the boat and returned to Puno.
Tomorrow we are back on the truck and cross the border into Bolivia and spend the night in La Paz, the capital. The next day we part company with our tour group and fly to Rio in Brazil. We plan to spend a few days in Rio and then head south the to famous Iguazu falls for a few days.
