Kerry and I are now back to at least 90% health, it is a relief. We were both on some antibiotics (self administered) for a few days which did the trick. We were a bit worried because our trek to macchu picchu is just a few days off now and we were getting a bit worried about not being able to do it. Anyway, smooth waters from here on in. Many others on our tour are having similar if not worse symptoms so its going through us all. One of the lads was in hospital for a few hours the other day.
Today we arrived in Arequipa, a mountain city with lots to see and do. We just went to a museum which had a frozen mummy of a 12 year old girl who was sacrificed by the incas on top of a 6000m mountain.
Tomorrow we are doing a 2 day (1 night) excursion to the Colca Canyon. It is said to be the deepest canyon in the world and apparently we are supposed to be able to see huge condors soaring up the face of the canyon. After that, we head to Cuzco and get ready for our 3 day trek to macchu picchu. We have been doing quite a lot of camping recently on the tour. The last 4 nights have been in the tent i think. The tents are really easy to put up and down, we have managed to scab some spare sleeping mats that they had on the truck and we are using whatever we can as pillows. Last night we camped on the beach at a place called puerta inca which is an old port for the incas (as the name suggests). It was nice to be camping within a few metres of where the waves were crashing. We are eating really really well here, we take it in turns of cooking each night and then another group washes up. Anyway, i am on dinner tonight and i need to get back to camp since we are cooking a roast chicken dinner.
